Hey, so with talk about 3.0 and 2ghz and dual core processors on the horizon, are you guys signing one or two year contracts for the Droid-X?

If you sign the two year, can you still upgrade to a new phone at the subsidized pricing after 12 months (or am I wrong about this)? What are the details for the two year agreement?

Do you think the $70 more a month is worth it for a one year contract? Technically, the Droid-X will probably still be worth a lot of month after 1 year so I can probably sell it for a good amount of money hopefully..

Please weigh in! I'm torn between the one and two year contract!!

(PS: if you order online, the promo code PRMCD10 gives you 10% off if you sign the 2 year agreement. It's also free overnight shipping, expires 7/20. Verified to work on phones.)

EDIT: My contract is up already, but I am currently on a family plan and my number is not the main line.

If you are the main line on a family plan or on a single plan and pay, I think it is $49.99 a month, voice only, then you will be able to upgrade at the 1 year mark anyway.

Yeah if you are the main line on any plan 49.99 or higher you qualify for annual upgrades so if you get the X and are the main line you will be able to upgrade in a year anyway

I am going to go ahead and get the 1 year contract to keep my options open. I am going to try to figure out away to get the droid x but then also get the first wave of LTE phones and dual core 2ghz processors. But I did the 1 year for the droid and it worked out, well actually I had to contact verizon so that they could move my upgrade date from October to JULY 15.:D

You aren't going to be able to get a 1 year contract with the promo since they moved your contract up

Do you think the $70 more a month is worth it for a one year contract?

Where do you get that going on a 1 year term costs $70 more per month?

I'll get a 1 yr contract; i'm switching to verizon so I think this will be ok. Just hope bb offer the correct price of 269.
That isn't the correct price. We all expect the cost to be $299.00 + $70 one year cost bump = $369. The $199 price is the cost of the phone with a two year commitment not a one year commitment. You won't qualify for the $100 rebate - thereby making the phone cost $299.

I probably would if Verizon or should I say the state of California didn't charge the full retail sales tax on a contracted phone.

It is almost worth the price of a Costco memebership to buy it there. Unless things have changed, and I did move out of the state 18 months ago, Costco only charges on the wholesale price of the phone. But then again you can only do a 2 year deal with them so it would not get you what you wanted anyway.

No the rebate works on either a one or a two year deal.

I didn't know that it was only in California that we pay tax on the full retail price.

I'm from CA... thought that was the norm, fail lol

No it is not the norm. They passed a regulation to get it that way.
http://www.boe.ca.gov/pdf/reg1585.pdf

Since sales tax is paid on the price paid. Except with cell phones.

And if you did not know you also pay tax on any manafacturer coupon since the store is re-imbursed the amount. Where a store coupon you do not pay any tax on since the store is just giving a discount.

If they used the droid X upgrade promo to move your upgrade date up then no you will not be able to get a 1 year deal. It stated on the deal that you must sign a new 2 year agreement to get the early upgrade.

I actually emailed verizon so that my new 1 yr upgrade date is july 15. I don't think that is using the promo...is it?

If you go on verizonwireless.com and try to buy the Incredible with either the 1 year or 2 year deal, you get the $100 rebate. The Incredible is $199 with a 2 year plan and $269 with a 1 year plan. If I use my new every 2, I can actually get the Incredible for $169 because the new every 2 is worth $30. I lose my $30 credit if I only go with the one year plan, but the price is still $269 and not $369.

I am getting the 1 year contract. I did the same thing for my wife last fall on her Droid - which she loves BTW. I will probably get her a droid 2 when it comes out in Sept when her contract expires and sell her droid.

With the speed that phones are changing I cannot imagine keeping it for more than 1 year (or 10 months in the case of Verizon).

By my calculations I will be able to purchase one of those 2Ghz LTE phones in May of 2011. Anyone what to buy a Droid X and take delivery on 5/16/2011?:D
