Help New to Android - poor battery life though

Hi all, I'm new to this forum and also new to Android having got my very first 'smart phone' in the form of an X10 Mini. I've spent hours tonight browsing the internet trying to find ways to improve the battery life but there seems to be so many conflicting views. Some people say to install a task killer and have it killing stuff left, right and centre. Others say to just let Android manage itself and allow it to kill apps whenever necessary.

I was just wondering whether any other X10 Mini owners had some tips for this device in particular?

I've read the post 'Poor battery life? Read this' and will give Juice Defender a try. I don't think i'm a heavy user of the phone, but then again I haven't really put it down since I got it. Battery life seems to be lasting around a day with texting, calling and wifi browsing for apps etc. Am I just expecting too much

I guess most are expecting too much yes.
As I wrote, mine last for about 3-4 days now. Talk time is supposed to be around 4 hours IIRC, so for yours to last a day seems normal.
Watch out for updated Android versions for the phone, which should give better battery life (we might need to wait for 2.2 before that happends?)

As I'm writing this, the battery is at 76% and the phone tells me it's about 12h and 17min since I took it off the charger last time (I then had 100%).
At this rate my battery should last for ca 48 hours more (a total of 60 hours on this charge with this type of usage)

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to run a series of tests to see just how much juice I can get out of it from now on. I've removed all kinds of task killers for first test to see how Andriod manages it on its own :)

my battery last about 2 days, and use my phone alot, i don't use task killers, i only have juicedefender installed, it works great.... but the battery needs some days to be full capisitet

I've actually removed Juice Defender as I am happy enough switching stuff off myself.

Basically, I am running the phone with 3g off, Wifi off, background data off, brightness at lowest level and will see how long it lasts. I'll switch Wifi etc on when I need them to browse the web or market

Does anyone else have an issue whereby their minis do not charge the full 100%? Best I can seem to get mine to is 99% and was wondering if this is just how it is

Edit - just ordered myself one of these:

I'll let people know it it makes much difference but I'm hoping it will as it's 1000mah

I use the charger from my girlfriends iphone and my battery allways charge full

Can we change Mini's battery?? I thought the battery is sealed inside and cannot be removed..

I think the warranty will be void with the new battery ;)

Mine will charge to 100% off the wall charger but only to 98/99% on USB.

I've just had another look at Juice Defender and all the setting are greyed out. It's enabled but it just says "Do Nothing" for all the options.

I can see their should be options below but they are covered by help, Get Ultimate and setup.

To keep the battery in shape while charging it, first it charges to 100% then let it drop to 96% before starting to re-charge to 100%. This cycles until you unplug the charger. So depending on when you plug it out you'll have between 96% and 100%.

I've found that the 3g/edge data drains battery in very short time.
So my 3-4 days battery life must be because I disable it all the time (just enables it to recieve mms).
With data enabled I was down to little over 1 day.

quiz:
Some apps have ads in them.
If I keep the 3g/edge data on, and these apps are not used by me but android has them available in the background - will this eat of my dataplan?
Or do they only go online when up front and running by me?
