2D view in Google navigation?

Is there any way to get navigation to display in a 2D view like google maps our are we stuck with the 3D view?

Yeah for the time being we're stuck with 3d view. I use KeepScreen to keep Google Maps from timing out which is helpful, but still not as good as if Google Nav just worked in 2d mode as well, with a no time out option.

It seems to leave the map in "north up" mode instead of rotating with you that way, but it's still an improvement. Thanks!

Hey I was looking for a compass or even a compass setting. Where in Nav are you seeing that?

Google's 2D map has always been this way, FWIW.

Yeah, but it can be confusing at a glance when using it for navigation. My in-dash navigation has several modes and I've found 2D with the direction I'm facing as "up" is the easiest for navigating and getting a clear picture of the streets around me. North always being "up" makes me double-guess if I need to turn right or left depending on which way I happen to be traveling on the map at the moment, and 3D just seems awkward to me. I grew up using actual paper maps and Thomas Guides though, so I guess I'll probably have to get used to the 3D view sooner or later...

That's a useful one. I sometimes run maps just to see where I am (even though I know...) Not having the screen time out will be much better. Thanks.

That's true, but I find that North Up is a better way of navigating whilst maintaining your sense of direction.

It's nice to have all options though.

really? there is a small lag to the gps, so i'm not always sure which direction i'm actually facing when i'm engaged in a turn. having the map always north eliminates this problem and i can tell exactly where i need to turn.

They really need to add 2D Naviagation. I can't stand the "3d" thats really just a tipped 2d map.
