App inventor

I sincerely hope this new Google app inventor program doesn't clog the Market with cruddy apps. I kind of prefer getting my apps from official websites/services who hire professionals to produce quality apps....quality over quantity. I wonder if this will increase our risk for Mal-ware?

someone who knows how to create malware is well beyond using a drag and drop editor.. if it were going to happen we'd have seen it.

I think this will make non-market apps more common. If I remember correctly, there is a fee to pay to get into the app market. It is likely that any app that can be made in the app inventor can be made better if it is done from scratch. People won't want to pay the fee, they will share to their friends over bluetooth or online download.

You DO realize just because someone creates an app doesnt mean they are going to upload it to the market right?

According to this column, these apps won't be published in the market:

To be clear, App Inventor isn't about to replace or even threaten the traditional developer model -- far from it. Apps built with Google's new tool will be less robust and advanced than what any professional developer could create; we're talking about two entirely different leagues of programs. In fact, despite what you may have read elsewhere, apps created with App Inventor won't even be published to the Android Market as of now.

hi all
just seen an add for this. anyone tried it?

I don't think these apps can be published

cheers
dan

I've tried it and made several of their tutorial apps. I think Google's stance at this point is that those apps can't be put on the market, but I can see why. As of the last time I played with it you couldn't even change the default app icon, and most importantly, even very basic apps were over a meg in size.
