i keep deleting my contacts and restoring them. phone only. i delete them, reboot, and have 0 contacts. i restore them (343total) and when i check i have over 3000. why? i see they are linked. linked to what. i unlink one and there are 5 duplicates...anyone know a quick way to clean this up? probably causing my phone lag. my only issue i have with the eris.

apparently every time i do this it adds to my contacts..dont know how. cuz i delete them..i must not be deleting them from somewhere else. i dont sync with google

i think i figured it out. i deleted them again. this time, instead of importing all i had to check off each one. at the bottom i had 6 vcf files named 0001, 0002....0006. those files are the backups. thats why they kept doubling every time. phone lag is gone now. so when i check people>menu>view i have 0 gmail contacts and my original 334 phone contacts. not to mention i gained about 3mb of phone storage

Not sure why you don't sync with Google contacts, it will save you from all this hassle. Some people think that all email Google contacts will show up, but there is an option just to view those with phone numbers.

i just dont want anything to do with goggle and syncing...i dont use it anyway..i would with yahoo though..also, its not a hassle anymore..k-9 mail easily finds my contacts from yahoo w/o doing anything. no syncing needed

Exactly how did you delete and reinstall? I have 4 sets of contacts. Can you take us thru this step by step?

Thanks !

there are lots of ways to delete. 1 is right through the people app. but i used "contact remover" from the market. i did a reboot just in case after deleting all. now here is the rub: assuming you backup through the people app(export to sd card, which i think is the cleanest. also you have just a backup of just your contacts)then you do a import. restore from 1 file. dont select all vcards. then it will give you a list of all you contacts as vcf files. scroll all the way to the bottom. since you have 4 sets you probably have 4 backups. so you probably have 4 files at the bottom with file names as 00001.vcf thru 00004.vcf. or 0005.vcf. pick the highest number(such as 00004.vcf). they are also dated. so really, just pick the most recent date(should be latest backup). select it and click ok. it should take a fraction of the time as the last 4 times you did it. you probably noticed when you restored previously that it would get to 99% and take forever for the last 3 or 4 contacts. thats because it was backing up your contacts, plus all your backups too....hope this helps....things are much quicker. especially searching contacts and dial lag.

another reason i dont sync with google. i dont need its contacts and mail and calendar and crap. just takes up more space on your phone
