No more Skype on fring. Alternative clients?

It looks like Skype and fring have had a massive falling out culminating in Skype no longer being available on fring.

The other well known Skype client is Nimbuzz, but looking at reviews in the market out does not appear to be that good with missed calls etc. Are there any other Skype clients for android or is it just Nimbuzz now?

I also have to say that the fact skype had still not produced a general app for android unless you are on certain networks an utter joke. Are they supposed to be a serious company?

Unfortunately, Skype's open ethics have long gone, the exclusive, and restricting deal, with Verizon proved that they are no longer interested in providing an alternative rather they now want to jump into bed with the mobile operators

Back on topic... I've been using Nimbuzz for Skyping to the US since last year; whilst the call quality isn't always spot on and the delay can be horrendous I have found it to be superior to fring.

This may be a very silly question but how did you use Nimbuzz for Skype? I've tried logging into Skype through Nimbuzz but it doesn't import my contacts or even offer me a dialer option.

I can confirm that i can call my skype clients using Nimbuzz. Though the first time i installed, my phone kept freezing due to it, had to restart the phone and remove my yahoo account. Uninstalled it,then installed again, then that's it, was able to call my skype contacts!

I had also to look for an alternative since fring removed support for skype. Too bad, Nimbuzz had no video call support for skype. Or am i missing something?

Am on Htc Legend, android 2.1 with Sense ui.

Edit: is it maybe that i have too many contacts at yahoo that Nimbuzz was freezing?

What about using the new video option in Fring or Sipdroid?
Hoh? Fring has a video call for SIP now? I uninstalled it already, since i dont use it.

Was using sipdroid for a while now, i registered at pbxes.org 2 extensions, 1 for my wife & 1 for me. Im using sipdroid and she's using x-lite on her pc. The call quality is better than fring, i can send her my video, but she cant send me her video. Her x-lite crashes if she does that, not sure whats wrong.

I prefer to call using sipdroid for a couple of reasons: it logins faster than fring & nimbuzz (i dont leave it on for battery reasons), fring &Nimbuzz first logins to their own network, then connects to skype, which takes a while; call quality is better, clearer (though this was not much of an issue for me when i was using fring for skype calls previously),but i guess this comes at the expense of higher data usage.

By the way, my account at pbxes.org using sipdroid works both on 3g and wifi.

I got same problem with my HTC legend phone. But i have found an alternative for free calling through google talk.Although its not that good as you can call only if you and your friend got google account but cannot call on landlines and mobile number but it really works if you want calling to your Gtalk friends and family totally free.Fringe can only work if both people got fringe on their phones. But what if i am on phone and my friend on computer?yeah you can still try through fringe ad on Google talk who really works good.Skype has banned fringe and yahoo or msn live they don't support calls on HTC legend.so try Gtalk if you want talk only free of cost.It really works and i think better than fringe. For more detail on this you can visit
