Slide versus N1...

Ok, so I have had my slide about a month now. I have been playing with a friends N1 at work off and on, quite a bit today. I actually believe the slide is faster and smoother. I am currently using launcher pro so the interfaces are quite similar. Seeing as I got the slide for less than half what the N1 would have cost, I just get happier and happier with it.

The screen may be smaller and lower res BUT it's brighter and as crisp as any I have seen.

Downsides are that the camera is subpar and SLOW. I seriously miss the camera on the BH2. Theres a little too much "wiggle" on the screen when it's closed, I wish it snapped into place a little better.

My Battery is 18+ hours with moderate usage, less with more and more with less. No complaints there.

I'm kinda glad now that I could not afford the N1

I have never wanted the N1 even though it supposedly was more superior hardware wise. I never really liked the look of it that much but more than that, I hated the way it was being sold - exclusively through Google who had no clue how to properly support it. We won't even go into the whole pricing issue on that. I am totally happy with my Slide and if someone offered to trade me even-up for an N1, I would not do it.

I wish I could find it again, but while I was researching phones I came across a chart of CPU benchmarks. The Slide actually scored very close to an N1 running 2.1. Apparently it's also the getting the highest GPU benchmark scores of any Android phone on the market right now. I can't wait to see how this thing will run once it gets 2.2!

I was happy when I first head about the Nexus 1 ... but I'm the type of person that can buy something over 10 bucks if I never held it in my hands. I don't know why Google doesn't sell the phone from a retail store... I would have bought one...

It is possibly I would've gotten an N1 if it were in stores. BUT I'm glad I didn't. I recently made the decision to return my slide for an N1 after seeing one in person. But after thinking about it just a little longer I realized I couldn't part with my slide. The genius button is the main reason. I thought it was silly at first but now I couldn't live without it. I do everything from that button!! The N1 has some apps you can add to it to get similar functions but I tried those apps on a friends phone and they were nowhere near as good as what is already on the slide (and it's more easily accessed). I am very happy with the slide. The only thing I'd change is that I'd want one without a slide out keyboard. It isn't necessary with swype around! AND I'd make some accessories available already! I should mention my battery life is nowhere near 18 hours with moderate use. Mine maxes out at 9. In fact I am pretty sure if I didn't use the phone AT ALL it would still die in less than 10.

Same here. The ironic part is that the Slide first caught my attention specifically because of the physical keyboard. The only Android phone I'd used for more than a few minutes was a Droid Eris I used for a couple of weeks. I just didn't like using the on-screen keyboard, so when I started looking for my own Android phone a physical keyboard was a major consideration. The rest of the phone's hardware, current version of Android, and likelyhood of future updates was equally important which is why I passed on the Cliq. Now just 2 weeks into owning the Slide, I find myself using Swype 100% of the time and exchanging the slide-out keyboard for a slimmer profile would be pretty nice...

FWIW, I unplug my phone at 6:30 in the morning, and unless I use it very heavily it doesn't get plugged back in until about 10pm or later.

The thing that helped me with battery life was removing things that checked the internet regularly like the facebook widget and turning my auto email checking down to once every couple hours as well. That, and turning off wi-fi and gps when not in use (there's a "power" widget that comes with it that's really useful for this).

Also, the strength of your cell phone signal will affect your power consumption -- weaker cell reception will use up more power on the phone. If you're not planning on using the phone part of the phone you could try putting it in airplane mode.

Its a mode that shuts off all of your data connections (including voice) so that their is no radio interference while on an airplane.
