Tip - "HOW DO I" Settings with Android

I added a shortcut-person-quick contact. It comes up with Sprint nav as default directions. The hero I had allowed me to use Google nav/maps rightful the quick contact. Please help me get rid of Sprint nav

From the main screen, Hit menu/settings/applications/Manage Applications
Look through this list till you find the sprint navigation app. (I am rooted and don't have sprint nav on my phone). Select the app then select clear defaults. Then when you select to do nav you should be prompted to choose an app, at this point select google, and you may want to make it default.

When I'm in contacts, it gives me the option to send a text message to all phone numbers, including home and work. Since only mobile phones can accept text messages (that I'm aware of), I only want the option to text to show up next to mobile numbers. It's kind of a pain to send a quick text to my mother, for example, when she has four phone numbers and only one of them, her mobile phone, can accept texts.

Is there any way to edit this?

I tried connecting my EVO to my vehicle's AUX line in to play pandora. This sort of worked but in addition to Pandora, other music started playing automatically and I have no idea why. We were literally listening to Pandora and noticing some odd noises in the background...took us a second to figure out it was another program playing music on the EVO. I was able to kill the extra music but it seemed to start again every time I pressed the home button. I was able to switch to the "rogue" music player through the notification bar but it was a very basic player with no configuration options or details. I have no idea what it is or how to control it! Can anyone help me here? It's probably something basic that I am missing...

I have a rental car this week - a 2010 Ford Escape with Sync. It plays my audio files through a bluetooth connection... That happened while I was trying to get the ipod to play. Just in case your car has a similar stereo system.

This was already asked and listed on the first post - Here is the answer, the question was a little different but the answer is the same:
A. This was a bug that was introduced in Android 2.1. I had the same issue with my Droid Eris and Sprint Hero. All we can do on that one is hope that it gets fixed with 2.2.

Is this a third party music app? Or the stock music app? If its a third party app I would uninstall it. If its the stock app I would need to do some searching to find out how to set it to not start when the audio jack is used. Mine doesn't do that right now so I am not sure.

EDIT: From searching the forums you are not alone with this issue. If you did not install a third party app that plays music from the SD card then you may have a defect. You may want to check with HTC about this, I posted their support link a few posts up. I have not seen any posts that fix this issue. You could try removing the music widget if you have that on one of your home screens.

That didn't do anything. Still see the stock bookmark icon with the itty bitty ESPN icon hanging on the lower left side of the bookmark icon. Any other ideas?

As far as I can tell this is just the way it is. I use dolphin browser HD and added dolphin bookmarks and saw the little icon at the left but only for the ones that had icons, and for the ones that didn't it just showed the stock bookmark. I don't think there is an easy way to change this.

in outlook i can assign categories to each contact, calendar item etc... for example i could have a calendar item named lunch and assign it to the "work" category in outlook. how can i assign categories to calendar items i create on the evo?

I played around with this some and don't see a way to do this with the stock calendar app. I do know there are other calendar apps out there that might have this function though. Sorry.

thanks slayer... you're the man!

if only android would take some lessons from palm, we'd have a seriously amazing operating system.

Well thats whats so great about it. It is a young OS and has lots of room to grow, but already kicks ass. I would say send Google a message and request them to add this functionality.

Thanks for the thanks ;)

PREVIOUS question: "Q. Is there any way to make it so that you can push one of the buttons on the outside of the phone to stop your phone from ringing?"
On the MOMENT, "turning it over does not work". However, pressing the Volume button stops the ringing and allows the call to still come in. In fact, it works on many different phones.

How do I set up a group for mass texting on my Droid?
thanks

Open up your contacts app,
All Apps/Contacts

Use the slider to open up groups
You will see groups already listed there.
Add a Group:
Menu/Add Group

To add contacts to a group:
Select the group then hit menu/add group member

Once you have set up your contacts you can then select groups in the TO: section of a new message.

Yes but this is not a "MOMENT" forum is it. This is for Sprint Evo.

How do i load custom icons to my phone from my computer? is there a certain folder i need to put them in. i know they have to be in png format. will the phone automatically resize them? if not what program can i use. photoshop?

As far as editing them you could use GIMP or PS. GIMP is a lot like photoshop and its free.

As far as using them on the phone you will need an app called anycut. It will allow you to make custom shortcuts to most apps and settings on the phone and should allow you to use custom icons. If that one doesn't work there are several others on the market that you can check out that might have more options.

EDIT: You should be able to place them in a directory on your SD card, just don't put them in the Camera folder (folder called dcim)
