How long does it take your Desire to shut down?

No. Certain posters insist that unmounting the SD card or turning off automatic backups is the definitive answer to this problem.

It's not. My phone's been up for a few weeks. I can pretty much guarantee that I'll have to pull the battery if I need to do a shutdown, regardless of the above "solutions".

I agree. I have the same problem. I even removed a couple of apps I was thinking caused this problem, like Astrid, to no avail.
If someone finds out the real solution it would be great.

I wouldn't advise pulling the battery, you may lose data or corrupt something
