Help How do I add custom labels on contacts' numbers?

go into the people app, choose the contact, choose edit contact, choose 'others', click 'add', choose phone, choose 'custom' from the bottom of the list.

all my contacts are google contacts, but i cant see why it wouldnt be there for phone ones?

Thanks, but no. It does not do anything. The last label I can use is 'assistant'. This is really annoying as I definitely need to have different labels for different phones. There must be a workaround...

I've updated to froyo (Android 2.2) and I can't edit the labels or add a custom 1. I contacted HTC and they say its not possible either. Does anyone know an app that will allow me to edit the labels for my contacts both phone and google?

I'm not looking for anything complex just the ability to change the label from "mobile" to "UK mobile" that sort of thing

AFAIK the vanilla contacts (of Froyo without Sense) has this functionality.
We need to find an apk that works on the device without FC'ing.

This has really annoyed me. I am certain that before Froyo i could add custom numbers to Google contacts (I even set them all up for loads of my work contacts who have a personal and work mobile!). Now, it seems this capability has been removed from google contacts entirely. I am not sure if this is because of some compatibility issues with gmail contacts, as logging into this on the pc shows the same list of options as google contacts on the phone. This never really bothered me though, as I never found the need to look up someones number from gmail contacts on the PC. More-so, they haven't enabled it for phone contacts in Froyo either, thus removing a feature that I was entirely happy with and offering no alternative!

I hope a way customising phone labels is brought to gmail/google contacts soon as I have loads of numbers assigned as "home" and "work fax" now! :(

As above really. How can I add custom labels for people's numbers? Home, work, Home fax etc are not enough. I need to create my own. Is it possible? Thanks!

hy i downloaded this free app called 'Phonebook 2.0' from Market and the good news is that it allows you to customise the labels :) by editing a contact as normal but when adding a number select 'custom' and then add your custom label)

but the thing is that when that person calls you normally it would intialise, for example; W for work and so on. However is that contact is calling you from a number that you have saved under a custom label then it'll appear as C.

i think that this is the fault of the OS not the app itself.

overall i think the Phonebook 2.0 is good.

And there is also this other free app called 'CL USB Sync' available on the market. Please note that when searching on Market type in the above and then select Deja Outlook, USB Sync. But for some reason when the app is running it'll crash and force close

hope that helps!
ps:BOTH APPS WORK ON PHONE CONTACTS

You certainty was correct. Android 2.1 with Sense had custom labels for numbers. I used custom labels all the time. Now, that my phone was upgraded to 2.2 the custom label feature is gone from my phone. When I look at a contact, I can see the custom labels, but I cannot make changes to it or even add new custom labels for numbers.

How is it possible that we lost this functionality?

My phone is an HTC EVO stock btw.
