Hi. After having many problems with my desire on Orange I want to try and get them to send me a galaxy instead. And I wondered if someone could please help answer there questions. My desire problems are

Non functional 3g internet. Dodgy Bluetooth. Dropping calls. Random inability to text. Alarm and fm radio not working.

Does the Samsung have any of there problems?

Also I wondered how hard it is to flash the Rom and finally it doesn't seem to have a touchpad or direction pad. So how do you finely move the cursor when texting? I mean going back and correcting errors etc.

Thanks a lot

I had a Desire for 5 days, well two in fact as Orange diagnosed the first faulty although the replacement did exactly the same. So I returned it under the 7 day cooling off period.

The main problem I had was dropped calls even on 2G in my home. The signal would drop from 3 bar to 0 and then no coverage at all. It made the phone unusable especially as my trust N95 was able to make calls in all rooms.

I now have a Galaxy S and it does seem better and hasn't dropped a call yet, although it is still not as good as the N95 which had a better call quality in these situations. The Galaxy makes the person the other end sound like a Darlek first in poor signal conditions. ;-)

regards
Steve

I think the problems with calls is an android issue or maybe even smart phone issue.
My Gf has the Galaxy s and I have the desire, we both have this same issue of not being able to make or recieve calls or send texts when in certain areas. We are both on Orange.
The main place I noticed this was Piccadilly gardens in Manchester she works there and I just happened to be on a course through work there and every day when I tried to call her to meet up for dinner I couldnt make or recieve calls in one corner of the gardens. She just happens to work in that corner too.
I thought my phone was the problem but she has the same issue which leads me to belive its Orange or OS problem. I heard though that If your phone is using GPRS to download at the time you ont be able to recieve calls which I tested my self by downloading from the market place when I only had a the G icon and called my own phone, it just went straight to answer machine.

That's a network issue. Vodafone in the UK give priority to calls rather than GPRS. Orange, t-mobile, O2 etc give priority to GPRS.

Use the trackball to move the cursor when texting and for god sake just send your Desire back and get a Galaxy then we won't see you moaning in this Desire forum about non-issues.

The problem is NOT your desire. It is the Orange network. I'm on Orange and I have not had ANY of the problems you've mentioned (ad nauseum) over the last week or so.
