16gb Class 6 MicroSDHC card = no good for Hero?

I can tell you one thing: the lag you experiece with the Music app is just a characteristic of the Hero's music player, and will be the same with any SD card. I know, it sucks, and I have to deal with it too. Just like I have to deal with all the other lags and jitters on the Hero.

As for the Transcend, yes, I bought a Transcend class 6 microSDHC card from Amazon and its no good. It has slowed my phone down like crazy and I mailed it in to return it. Once the refund is processed, I will be ordering the A-data, as I have heard better things from Hero users about that brand as opposed to Transcend.

Hope this helps

just to chime in..

i have a sandisk 16gb that i first had in my bb tour when i sold that to get this hero. i have music thats from my bb tour and also videos that were made on the bb tour and also some i copied.

im using all stock... htc built in player and all..

i dont experience any hiccups when playing music or watching videos, either sourced from the bb tour or videos i installed on the card myself. sandisk makes pretty industry standard cards and i have always had success with their cards over the years. i have heard issues with more off brand and the transcend cards over the years also...

I just rooted and loaded up my phone. I put a transcend 8GB class 6 card in. I have no problems accessing and running software and files off the card. I have no problem with the phone waking up.

I do have a problem when I connect the phone to my computer. When I connect it to my computer and select mount, it literally can take 10 seconds for it to appear. This is in Linux and Windows. I average around 7 MB transfer speeds. I have no such problem with the 2gb card. This is very frustrating. Anyone have any ideas?

OMG 4secs and your complaining about wake time with a card that is 8 times bigger than the stock card that it came with. sd cards are not hard drives they are flash memory which is great but android does not magically know where to look on the card on resume. it checks the card everytime it wakes up to make sure it's still there and still funtioning properly. micro sdhc stands for high capacity and class 6 stands for data transfer rate which for a class 6 the transfer rate is 2 megabits per second a class 2 card is rated at 1 megabit per second. you get double the speed + 8 time the capacity = slower wake times but you benifit with faster file xfer rate from pc to your phone hope this clears up the misconseptions

Well 4 seconds is the quickest I have seen it connect. It has been as high as 15 seconds. I have other 8GB flash memory laying around(not micro sdhd). When I plug my camera in loaded with data(8 GB SDHC), it comes right up. Maybe a 1 or 2 second delay) When I plugged my 16GB iphone in, it came right up. There was hardly ever a delay. Are you saying this is typical behavior for a msdhc card? I have never had one before. So long as I know my card is fine.

After reading this thread, I've opted for Sandisk 16gb class 2 card. I saved a couple bucks not getting class 6, and got a good, quality brand I trust. Phone is as snappy as ever. I have alot of music, video and pics on it already.

I'm anxious to try aps2sd... I'm hoping the data transfer speeds are solid. I'll report back.

Please do report back!!!!!!! I was thinking after reading all of this I was going with a class 2 16GB "Sandisk" (the best brand on the market, period). Save myself a ton of cash...and have a HUGE amount of memory I'll never need! Who cares if it takes a bit longer to get all my music onto my card....it's when I play it that count!!!! ....and a class 2 is just as good as a class 6 when playing tunes :D

So let us know how it goes!!! Thanks!

Memory cards are one area that I definitely stay away from off brands. Part of that comes from being an avid photographer, you usually get what you pay for, in any product.

Plus, being bought off New Egg is another issue, everybody I know that has bought from them has had to return the product for one reason or another. It is common to receive opened products in a new purchase from New Egg also.

Hi all
First off new to the forums. I just recevied my Sprint Hero 2 weeks ago and I just love it. I pick up a Adata 16 gb class 6 micro sdhc card and have no problems with it or the phone. I found on the HTC site that the phone can take a micro sdhc card. Here is what the web page has on it "Currently the MicroSD card supports 2.0 SDHC compatibility" the link to the web page that I found this on is HTC Mobile Phone Support - HTC Hero? (Sprint) - Storage Card

I hope this helps. Pick up the card at amazon for $68 .

I've got a 16gb class 2 Sandisk loaded with lots of music (2500 files in 179 folders) and several folders loaded with 1.7gb of offline maps, and 5.6gb of free space remaining. My phone behaves admirably in all regards. It wakes from sleep mode in slightly less than one second. From a full power-off condition, the "htc" logo appears in less than two seconds. These times are identical to those observed on my wife's Hero, which still has the original 2gb card installed. Boot-up time from power-off to full active home screen is right at 120 seconds on my phone, which is about 7 seconds slower than hers, but I'm not gonna sweat 7 seconds over a two-minute boot.
All apps execute on my phone exactly as they did when my original 2gb card was still installed. The factory music app comes up in less than 2 seconds to the same spot I paused it in the same song I was playing the last time I used the app, even after re-booting! :)

Regarding the Hero misbehaving, there have been a very few times when one app or another doesn't act as it should on my phone, and also on my wife's phone. For example, once in awhile the stock camera app will just freeze (this has happened on both phones). Invariably, when that has occurred, there have been lots of other apps consuming lots of space in active memory on the phone, and remaining memory was running very low. I have Advanced Task Killer installed on both phones, and I just kill all open apps, and everything runs fine again after that. I know that there is a sticky thread in this forum regarding task killers, and I know some very wise folks say that task killers shouldn't be necessary on the Hero. I'm just telling you what I've found to work for me and my wife. If you observe an app not behaving correctly, see how much remaining system memory you have available...if it's only 20-something meg left available, well, that's when I see apps having problems running correctly. Kill all the open apps, and re-open your app, and see if it runs okay after that. Just a suggestion.

Btw, without mentioning any merchant names, I bought my memory card from an eBay seller for less than $39, and picked it up myself (free local pickup, Grapevine TX). He's got more listed as we speak. $1.10 to ship USPS.
