Evo Outduels iPhone 4 on. CNET Prizefight

Agreed, w/ Froyo I think all the top end Android phones, Evo and the X would outbeat the 4 any day.

I want a complete side by side battle of the Evo w/ Froyo against the I4, then see who matches up as king.

Man, it all comes back to the antenna issue that Apple is trying to sweep under the rug, and that iPhone users are flooding article comments with their "it's not a big deal! You hold it by top of the phone like Steve said!" retorts. I went to lunch with a friend who owns a 3GS yesterday. I told him to show me how he holds the phone. He initially picked it up the Steve way, as he was instructed to do by The One, but when he put it to his ear, he held it with four fingers down one side, thumb on the other. You can't fight what comes naturally

But people will buy the phone anyway because of the name and the UI, and that's their prerogative. But after the nth dropped call from me gripping the phone improperly (I hold it with four fingers down the side), I'd want to throw it against the wall.

But if more of these reviewers come out and change judgement, it might persuade a few thousand.

My iphone fanboy friend likes to always say the iphone is the best because its the top selling phone. I like how people think that sales numbers makes something the best. So I guess the best TV in America is Visio? And the best car in America is the Honda Accord? They may sell the most. But i would rather watch my 65inch Sharp Aquos LED than the Visio walmart special tv. Or i would rather drive an Audi A6 over that accord. Sales numbers dont dictate the best.

BTW.... when we tested every feature side by side his iphone was destroyed in every test. He didnt know what to say. Then i asked him to test the Navigation software and he could only look at me with a smile. He knew he was defeated. The only thing he could say was his screen was brighter and a little more clear. And it was. But the 4.3 inches more than makes up for this.

The iphone has some advantages over the EVO. Video camera is a big one if you use that feature (i do), and battery life is another. But for everything else the Evo beats it. Regardless of how many people buy the iphone.

I used testmy.net - Broadband Speed Test and my 4G I ran several test and results concluded 3.1 to 3.5M down and 355 to 431kb up

You really cant. Iphone 4 was sold around the world and evo is only in America.

I'm going to ask my iPhan friends to initiate a vidchat with someone while we're at dinner in NYC this weekend. They won't be able to because we're going to a place without open wifi and it's blocks from the nearest ATT wifi spot.

If the iPhans would stick to iP4 being the easiest to use for existing iPhone/iTunes users and a simpler UI, I'd concede that. But it's just not the same phone. Even in CNET's Prizefight, they give more weight to iPhones UI and look than actual performance.

I'm shocked there are $20 rubber bands for sale at ATT and Apple stores as the official fix to antenna problems. Oh, that's right. ATT's contribution is 1) use Wifi if it doesn't work and borrow someone else's phone if you need to make a call and 2) we can't fix the upload problem until someone else comes in and re-jiggers the formulae and algorithms for us. Priceless ....

I'm not surprised at all. iP4 had the "sexy" and "hot" factor. It's like when a guy hooks up with a really hot girl at a club one night only to find out the next morning that everyone looks better when you've been sipping the spiked Kool-aid and believing the hype driven by your hormones and emotions.

Evo's like the runner-up to prom queen who's still attractive and then turns out to be the best catch at the dance.

Round 4 should have went to the Evo. The middle reviewer said that Sprints 3g beats ATTs, but then deducted points for 4g not being available everywhere. Then he stated Sprint charges $29.99 for 4g which is incorrect.

All in all, I thought it was a good analysis.

I think it's crazy comparing phones, every phone has its ups. The htc evo has the large screen, 4G, open source, and excellent service plans. While the iPhone, has it excellent app store, user friendly, easier to get repaired (Apple Store), and easier to sync. I personally love the htc evo, I wouldn't trade it for the iPhone 4G, mainly because I got use to the large screen.

I agree with you to a degree. But i dont think a person can say something is the best just because the most people buy it. That applies to any product. Think of how many products lead the market in sales in their category but are not the best products. It happens so often. It is about marketing. Cars is a good example. Think of how many people bought honda accords from 98-02 because they were marketed and had a reputation of being all around great. So many people went out and bought those care because the brand "Accord". They didnt even look at the competition. They just went in to the honda dealerships and paid full sticker price for the cars because they just assumed it was the best car. Well that generation of accords has a terrible transmission that has failed at an amazingly high rate. Many people that bought them have had to replace the transmission twice already by 100k miles.

Point is iPhone has become a brand. Most people that bought the iPhone 4 didnt even look at anything else. They just assumed it was the best and bought it. Sales numbers are not an indication of what product is best. But instead show what product is best marketed. Moto Droid outsold evo so far relatively. Droid was better marketed. Most people have never heard of an EVO.

I loved this review. I was an iPhone user for 2 years and having nothing but good experiences with it. Popularity should not dictate performance though. I love my Evo and couldn't be happier my iPhone was stolen to give me the opportunity to try the droid devices.

I love my EVO, so I really don't care much for comparisons. I just know the capabilities that the EVO has and that's all that really matters to me. All the gimics and games, I could care less about. If I bought my phone for "trendy" games, I'd prefer going home and playing ps3, rather than on my phone.
