is anyone else having constant dropped calls, poor phone quality, lags in screen displays when calling, incoming calls you can't pickup, etc....

Ever since my 2.1 upgrade for the HTC Hero, I've had tons of phone issues and can barely talk on the phone cause i'm running into so many issues. The sprint network shows bars most places so it can't be the network all the time.

the lag time and dropped calls make this a very poor cell phone.

I installed the "official" Sprint 2.1 update on my Hero when it first came out, and did it for my wife's Hero this morning. The updates installed without any issues or problems.

I can't speak for anyone else, but our HEROs (we have two of them) have been great. We have NEVER had a dropped call in the past six months we've had them. Battery life is super, at 16 hours from wake up to bedtime, the battery is still 60%, with moderate phone call and internet use all day.

The only issue is there is a minor crack in the plastic next to the USB port. I have no idea how it got there, I have never dropped the phone or anything like that. It doesn't affect anything, and not worth $100 for an insurance fix.

Sprint's HERO is a winner in my home.

I have to call them but I have no faith in them at all and those phone call are a hour. I haven't done the 2.1 update because my contacts are all screwed up some say phone others say gmail. I want to have all my contacts on gmail before I update.

I haven't done this myself but it has been said if you get MyBackup Pro and back up your contacts, then delete them from the phone and then resotore your backup of contacts, they will all be Google.
There was a recent post with that information on it
Good Luck!

Lucky enough its worth something on ebay so I can dump it and get some money toward a new phone. No more android for me but I do think it more the phone being crap then andriod. Speed is a real issue this phone is just very slow. I bet a phone with enough power would make a world of difference
The Hero Android experience is phenomenal, in my experience and hundreds of others here. Maybe you need to give some custom ROMs a go.

I have a Hero. It and the Moment are both crap. My understanding is that HTC Android devices suck. I know my HTC Diamond was also junk. And the Mogul wasn't much better. Of course they were Winmo. Samsung are a little better. Everyone with a Droid however says it is great. So evidently Motorola makes a better Android device. I am switching to the Motorola Droid X. I pray I have better luck than with HTC.

Ahhh, fallacies of reasoning, they swing both ways.

I have a Hero. It and the Moment are the best. It is my understanding that HTC Android devices rock. I know my T Mobile SDA and the Dash were bad ass. And I've heard so is the HTC Diamond, Diamond 2, and TP2. Of course they were WinMo (a great system in its own right, if you know how to wield it.) Everyone with a Droid says they suck (motorola droid sucks - Google Search), more so the the Backflip and Cliq lagged out of the box with the painful attempt at Sense i.e. motoblur,so evidently Motorola makes a bad Android device. I am switching to HTC. I pray I have better luck than Motorola.

But seriously though, the Moto X looks tight. Good luck, but if you truly want an Android device to perform its best, you need to root, and flash.

I have to say - my Hero is a laggy POS, and I am definitely considering never buying a HTC Android product ever again.

Unfortunately, I have come oh-so-very close to chucking mine across rooms, against walls, etc. in the past week and a half.

Yes I'm rooted, Yes I've tried different ROMS, Yes I've tried troubleshooting. I've done quite a bit of research, and while some people have no issues with their devices (and I do believe that to be true, as my parents both have Heros and have no complaints), I seem to have had 2 of them now.

The funny, but sad thing is, when it FINALLY appears to be working properly and "smooth" I only get to experience it for a short amount of time because the battery lasts 3 hours.
