I'm actually getting a little bit nervous now - I've never had a phone like this before, so after I receive it and charge it for the 8 hours, when I turn it on..will it help me get it set up or am I totally on my own? What is the first thing I"m going to want to do?? And when in this whole process do I activate it?? Can I do that even before I charge it?

please please dont torture yourself, You do not I repeat you DO NOT need to charge it for 8 hours just turn it on and enjoy, You have waited long enough.

I did that and have had no problems what so ever.

First that you wanna do is hit the marketplace and stock up!

It is probably not going to come fully charged but you can go ahead and turn it on if you like. Be aware that since it will only have about a half charge and you are going to want to play with it like crazy, it might not be long before you have to put it on the charger. You can charge it and play with it at the same time if you like. HTC's website recommends an 8 hour charge at the beginning but from what I've been able to learn about these batteries, that really should not be necessary, as you've been told already.

If you have trouble getting it activated, just call Verizon and they will hold your hand and walk you through the whole process. Please not be too nervous, though the excitement of a great new phone is almost impossible to resist. Above all else....HAVE FUN!

I have never had a phone like this before either. I just received mine on July 6th. I did not charge it the 8 hours. I just played with the phone until it died and then put in on the charger. While it was charging, I kept pushing buttons and just exploring the phone until 2 in the morning.

I think when you turn the phone on, it walks you through a couple of things. Just explore and do not let it overwhelm you because it is capable of doing so many things. You will love it! :)

I made of list of apps I wanted on appbrain.com. Then when I received the phone I installed appbrain from marketplace and then pushed sync and I had all of the apps I wanted installed!

well, I've been queuing up apps for a week now LOL. I just keep reading all these threads and the terminology is all so new and foreign to me, that I'm hoping that once I get it in my hand things make more sense..like I'll say "Oh, that's what they were talking about....."

I'm really not techonophobic...just very excited.

I got mine yesterday and just did a quick charge on the stock battery. It charged in an hour or so. Maybe 2. I set mine up and played with it till it died after about 6 hours. I then put in the Seidio 1750 battery with the phone turned off and let it charge till I got up yesterday afternoon (I work nights). I fired it up at around 5:30 CST and it is now about 12 hours later. I used it quite a bit when I got to work and was worried as the power dropped pretty fast to like 68%. I have still used it quite a bit since then but have notoced the battery level isn't dropping as fast. It is like 48% right now. It has been better than I thought and am now not really worried about the battery life. It is quite acceptable for me. So charge that baby up and hammer it hard to get to know it! :D
