Root why dont this forum put an emphasis on the Froyo Roms

why not just check out xda and download them there? i use both forums. no rule you can only use 1.

Yes, but the OP makes a good point about Froyo's scant ROM info here.

I'm curious as to why. The only thing that comes to mind is that XDA does house a lot of ROM developers and super geeks in general as compared to here.

Developing is their thing over there.. it being XDA-developers dot com and all. ;)

This may just be me, but the only really good thing from 2.2 is JIT and that can be pretty much added to any rom.

I decided to use aloysius snow as a base and use ADW launcher and everything is working great.

As far as a froyo rom goes. that will be very hard seeing as the eris probably wont get it. even though with jit we pull more MFLOPS than a stock (2.0.1) droid. not everyone is going to be doing this though.

We will probably end up getting little tidbits of 2.2 in our roms. I couldnt really ask for more.

There's already a very developed vanilla 2.2 rom available at xda. I flashed it last night and it works very well. I'm in the process of flashing EE 3.0 right now because I kind of miss sense. I'll probably end up bouncing between the two when the last few bugs get worked out of punk kaos's 2.2 rom.

This site used to be a valuable resource for me. Lately it has been losing that value. Froyo is being updated almost daily, and sometimes several times a day. But you wouldnt know by looking here

The value of these forums is very high, as I look around at device forums.

Comparing it to XDA is not quite right in that the emphasis there is intentionally in the developer direction. It is a great area, one of my favorite device areas on the 'net.

But this cluster covers a lot of ground and has a core cadre of dedicated moderators and guides, as well as great administrators who are quite proactive when it comes to forum issues and concerns.

Android Forums is where the Android user will end up coming to often if s/he wants info and community, with quite a range of personalities along the way. Just like real life. ;)

The reasoning has been explained above. Most devs simply release their ROMs on the developer forum. Not trying to be rude, just don't know what else to tell you. Maybe you can go over to XDA and ask each dev if they are OK with reposting their ROM here. I'd ask, because some Devs only want their ROMs posted in certain places.

There's (1) primary Froyo ROM, from the HTC Hero, and a few have been "ported" to the Eris. On the different ROMs I've looked at, WiFi Tethering doesn't work, you have to take pictures with the camera "blind" (no preview ... point, cross fingers, shoot, see what you took), issues with Market, etc. Personally, I can wait... and will.

The only two things that I want out of Froyo are 1) support for hands-free bluetooth dialing and 2) the ability to use Flash 10.1. Number 1 is more important than the other, because messing with my phone while driving is now illegal. Even before now, I still haven't liked having to look down at my phone to dial a number...it is dangerous.
