Shipping and Exchange Questions

Hey all, first time poster here and I have a few questions regarding my HTC Incredible order that I would like to ask you guys. I realize these questions have probably been asked before; although I'm technologically adept, I'm really new to the whole smartphone thing so bear with me here. :)

Basically, my first problem is that this is the phone my son has been asking for for months and I've finally been able to negotiate the payment of it with him. I ordered the phone around July 9th, and the Verizon site said that the phone would probably ship by August 9th. My son's birthday is the 8th, and I was really crushed when I read the shipping date and sort of just hoped for the best, it would really suck if his only birthday present didn't even arrive on time! In my depression I feverishly checked the site every day and just recently I noticed that the shipping time has been bumped up to the 2nd. I know this probably sounds like a stupid question, but to those of you that have received your phones on backorder, do you think its likely that the phone will get here by the 8th?

My second question is regarding the release if the Droid X today. I was planning for this to be my backup option of the Incredible did not arrive on time. I've been reading these forums for a few days and a bunch of reviews on various different sites, and the X seems to be the next best thing compared to the Incredible. I was really kinda bummed because I want him to have the best available, but he hasn't said anything to me about it so I'm not sure what he wants. My question is about Verizon's exchange policy. Say my son activates his phone on the 8th, my understanding is that he has 30 days to play with it before he decides he wants to keep it. Does this mean that if within that one month period he decides that he wants the X because it is cooler/faster/better supported/whatever, that I can hassle-free exchange the phone for no extra cost or grief? I would like to know if I should be canceling my Incredible order before it ships in favor of the X.

Thank you all in advance for your help. Sorry if I sound like an old man, I'm really just concerned and I'm really hoping you guys can steer me in the right direction here. Thanks again!

First off, Welcome to the forums!! I have only had my Incredible for 7 days and I am getting a replacement one today. (GPS issues, rebooting) regardles I really enjoy the phone it is a great piece of technology, I just happened to get one with issues. I can say that your son will have a full 30 days to mess around with the phone and I suggest that he do just that. During the 30 day period you can return the phone no questions asked for a refund or exchange.

Now as far as even trade for the Droid X, I would think Verizon would charge you the difference in price between the X and Incredible. I purchased mine online and only paid $149.99 rebates are instant for online orders. I see the X is $199.99 from the website so I think that worst case scenario, you would have to pay an additional $50 if he wanted the Droid X. Check with a Verizon employee to be sure. I myself may change to the X, but I need to go to a store and hold one in my hand to see how I would like it. I still have 3 weeks left, but so far I love my Incredible.

Thank you for the response! I purchased the Incredible for $199.99 (did I miss a $50 rebate?), so it seems like there will be no hassle if he wants to exchange. That's a huge relief that he has the freedom to exchange it whenever he wants during that trial period, it really seems like you can't go wrong with either phone!

Do you all think its likely that he will want to trade the phone in? Just out of curiosity now, from everything I read it seems like the X has better technology, but that phone seems really, really big! My son is 5' 4" and weighs about 115 lbs, he's pretty small for a 17 year old and to be honest the X looks like it would just be too big in his hands. Hell, I was worried the Incredible would be to big! Ahhh I probably just worry too much in general, I'm sure he'll be happy with either one, it's just his only present and I really don't want to get him something lame. Thanks for your help everyone!
