For those of you struggling making a gold card, here is a useful tool that makes it easier

http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/

I have just tried it & can confirm it works on windows 7 x64 faultlessly.
you can also use this tool to make a gold card in a card reader, i have done it that way myself

gst has a tool on the market called goldcard helper, this looks to simplify things more.
make sure you say thank you to him if you use this tool, in post 25

Here is another link to make a gold card

How To: Create a Goldcard | TheUnlockr

If you download the Hxd hex editor & follow the instructions you can verify your card is a gold card by comparing to the goldcard image file.

Once you have used this goldcard method to debrand your phone please note the following.

If you are on orange & you update the radio the wifi will stop working.

If you update the radio with the goldcard in the phone the wifi continues to work, but the phone will simlock against all simcards.

Get yourself an unlock code & unlock first.

Note the OTA updating is not strictly limited to Orange branded handsets it can happen to any branded handset that is still locked.

BE SAFE & GET A PHONE UNLOCK CODE FIRST BEFORE ANY OTA

Hi anoniemouse, followed the easy steps and it appears to of been a breeze, is there however a way to test the gold card was successful created?

Place your gold card in a card reader & you should see the following 2 folders
LOST.DIR &
.footprints inside that will be 2 folders thumbnails & voices

thats all you will view on there, thats just to confirm its correct

BTW, what does .NET 2.0 mean? Its on the list of prerequisites in the readme file?

sorry, can anyone help on this, i have just looked in the HTC sync folder on my C drive C/programme files/HTC/HTC driver/Driver files and in there, there is a folder that says Vista_x86, what exactly does that mean? is it my OS, as im running Vista 32 bit.... im just thinking if this is the reason that i am struggling with the drivers, have i installed the wrong drivers or are they correct?

Sorry to hijack your thread annonimouse....

Thats still ok m8

Yes Vista_x86 stands for 32 bit not sure why they use x86 to stand for 32 bit as they use x64 to stand for 64 bit it does look confusing like that.
As such you do have the correct drivers.

No need to say sorry m8, forums are meant to be used in this way.

The lost.dir folder will be empty m8 its the footprints folder that has 2 folders inside

the .net 2.0 is a set of programs that can be added to windows if required, do a search on the microsoft site & you will find them for installation

I appear to have successfully made a Goldcard using the tool. I can see the folders LOST.DIR & .footprints and the 2 folders thumbnails & voices.

When I try and run the RUU, I get error 131 "cannot update Rom". I am trying to troubleshoot my problem. How do I know whether the Goldcard is actually functioning properly. Is there a quick test I could perform on the card to find out?

What guide are you using? Are you sure you're definitely following the correct guide for your ROM and HBOOT version?

I've also recently written another tool that simplifies the steps of obtaining the "Reverse CID" (that you need to enter on the PSAS website). Just search for "GoldCard Helper" on the Android Market. Basically what it does is just printing the reverse CID for all installed SD cards. You can then either copy this information to your clipboard (and then paste it on the PSAS website) or you can "share" it (and thus send it, e.g., to your own mail address).
