Notepads and Notepad's that sync - Evaluations and Reviews

I'd like to dedicate this thread specifically to the evaluations and feedback for various notepads and notepads that sync.

I'd like to keep this separate from ToDo lists, lists, tasks, task lists, etc. as I've dedicated that to another thread ( http://androidforums.com/android-ap...sks-lists-task-lists-evaluations-reviews.html ).

Doing a search for notepads on the Android Market comes up with so many results. Rather than downloading and trying out so many, I'd like to know which notepad is recommended.

I've been searching for notepads that sync - preferably with Google Notebook. Google notebook isn't very popular these days and they appear to be phasing it out and gearing users towards Google Docs.

On the iPod Touch (and iPhone of course), I've been using an App called gNotes which syncs with my Google Notebook. However, I haven't been able to find any Android applications that sync with Google Notebook.

I did, however, find at least a couple of Apps that sync with Google Docs.


Notepads that Sync with Google Docs

Gdocs notepad is a basic and simple application that creates a dedicated folder on your Google Docs and syncs basic text notes. Pretty basic and straightforward.

This is an App that syncs with Google Docs, lists all your Google Docs, allows you read/view/edit most of your Google Docs, etc.


Other Notepads?

What are some other notepads you've downloaded and/or experimented with?

Seems similar to GDocs Notepad with Sync. However, it syncs to Helipad - Product overview , not your Google Account. I didn't bother downloading this because one commenter mentioned that the Application was great, but helicoid wasn't, so she switched to Google Notepad with Sync.

I haven't downloaded this, but this is a 4-1/2-Star App that seems to sync with the Google Account.

I haven't downloaded this. Curious to know how users here rate and evaluate this.

Please comment on other Notepad Apps. Please indicate if they

Anybody got any opinions about this stuff? I'm looking for a good note taking app, but there are tons in the market place, difficult to choose.

I have Note Everything. I don't see any options to sync. The only option is Export and then you can export it as a txt file to the SD card or you can send the note through email.

When you export it as a txt, all formatting is lost. All the sentences run together. Sucks.

When you send it as gmail, it at least keeps the different lines separate.

I am using gdocs and like it. I wish there was an option to "hide" a file like the desktop version has. Does anyone know of an app that does that?

Note Everything (Pro)

1) Does sync, but not to your Google account- you would need to download an app plug-in called Sync Note Everything. Your notes would be synced with Helipad pad.helicoid.net. You would also need to run the Sync Note Everything app in the background in order to sync them online. This feature is my only dislike

2) You can share notes via Facebook, Twitter, sms, Gmail, and any other email clients

3) Make different folders

4) Other features: photo notes, paint notes, check lists (durable/non-durable), gallery notes, set reminders for notes, create sticky note in notification bar, create shortcuts to different notes on home screen, encrypt notes

Overall I think Note Everything is amazing. I was willing to pay for it. My only issue is the syncing with Google. IMO, once that has been updated it will be the best notepad.

Disappointed that web site does not have HTML friendly entry system; we need to do it ourselves? Deal breaker for me... Oh yeah it's free.

I'm tempted by Gdocs (or Gdocs Notepad with Sync), but is it safe to give my Google username / password to third party applications ? I have no guarantee that one of them will not collect and store these informations on their own servers.

What do you think ?

I've been playing with NoteEverything and its GDocs plugin (separate download). I don't have a big problem with stripping format, but it's only a 1-way sync. It doesn't merge changes back into both documents, it just makes another copy of the note.

Another drawback with NoteEverything is that it only can store notes in the memory, not on the SD card - with my HTC Hero I am always running low on memory so I'm not crazy about the idea of loading up the phone with all the notes I want and then having no room for apps. (It can back up notes to the SD card, but it won't read them directly from there.)

Evernote seems to have great features, even in the free version, but I haven't played with it much - major drawback is that the notes are stored online, so if you have no internet you have no notes.

My main need is to enter data on the computer (easier to type) and have it accessible and editable on the handheld device. For example, I'm watching a travel show on TV and want to make notes on places to visit when I get to that city. With my notebook computer I can make a nice note for each city and add URLs and such. Then I want to have access to that from my phone when I'm traveling.

I never knew it would be so much trouble to duplicate the functionality of Palm Desktop notes. I didn't know how good I had it....

I thought the free version does allow you to store your notes on your SD card, one of the permission asked is 'read/write SD card'...

just hoping to revive this thread. i have so many "memos" from my palm treo that i would like to have on my phone and be able to backup. currently, i'm using toodledo and got to do lite for my tasks/to do list, so it'd be awesome to have an app that would sync w/toodledo, as well. i don't think there is, though. i'm also trying to stay away from entourage (i have a mac)/outlook b/c i've got my calendar sync'd w/ical. thanks for any help you may have!

I have not powered up Palm in years, but I *still* keep all my notes in Palm Desktop, contacts too. An app that could actually sync memos and contacts between Palm Desktop and apps on the Android would be totally cool. (Yes, bidirectionally) Via Bluetooth or USB, either way fine with me.

I want I want and would pay, o development crowd!

I had thought that this was a no-brainer essential app, and that the absence of one was just one of those temporary aberrations that early adopters have to put up with until app development catches up. I'm now guessing that I'm just a bit weird, and that there is no significant demand for this or one would have been developed by now!

Anyone know if anything is brewing??

I have moved most of what I need to access daily into the cloud rather than syncing between my computer and my device. Because I want it all backed up in the cloud anyway, I see no reason why I should have it synced between my phone and my PC, and then my phone and the cloud. My PC has access to the cloud, why not just keep it all there?

The absolute best note taking app that I've found is Gtasks. It works within Google Tasks and I just have a task list with my notes in it. Each new task is a new note document.

It's all synced silently and automatically, it's simple and fast, and I can edit my notes anywhere that I can login to my Gmail account.

It's also got a great widget, that resizes well in Launcher Pro and can be customized to show any of your task lists.

I don't know if this set up is what you're looking for, it's saving to the cloud but you have the ability to save to download the notes. I use dropbox on my phone and computer. I have document to go and save all my words doc to the dropbox, sych it and it appears on my computer or vice versa. If you don't already have doc to go and don't want to spend the money, I think most note apps will open in the note program on your computer. You might want to give it a try. It's a pretty easy set up to use. This allows you to have basically anything (notes, pics, music) you save accessible anywhere and everywhere

I'm using Jade Notes on my phone, Resophnotes on my pc, and syncing them with a service called simple notes. Here's my post on that solution in a thread about other options. It seems that many options exist to sync between your phone and a server somewhere ("the cloud") but few also sync to a local file on your pc.
