Anyone else wish Evo had 8GB on-board memory

Does anyone else feel HTC skimped on the memory for the Evo?

Both the Droid's have 8Gb. and the DroidX has a really sweet deal -

"On-board memory for the Droid X is 8GB with a 16GB microSDHC card shipping with the handset. Along with the launch of the Droid X is a new 32GB microSDHC card that is a Verizon Wireless exclusive from SanDisk. Buyers of the Droid X who also get the 32GB microSDHC card at the same time will get $50 off the price of the memory card and bring the total storage capacity of the Droid X to 40GB. With the discount, the 32GB memory card will cost $99"

Uh, do I need to give anything up? I mean, of course I'd like more memory for free, I wish it had TB of memory, not that I'd use it, but if they're going to give it to me, I'll take it.

X doesn't have a front facing camera, I'd rather have the camera than memory I probably won't use, and a 4G radio. So, sure, more memory is great, but if it didn't make the cut so HTC could add the other things, I'm glad they went the way they did.

Um don't know, doesn't seem like I will fill up the memory it comes with now so what would be the point? I could understand if it didn't have an sd slot but it does. And Froyo will make it even less of an importance.....

So to answer you question. No reason to wish for more memory unless you can convince me why we need it?

Nope, whats the point of 8 GB of storage if you can only use it for apps??? If you fill that up with apps then something is wrong with you. Froyo has AppsSD built in, so honestly excess is nothing but a waste. Its just something to good to quote if you have an X, but then actually not mean much.

With Apps2SD, I won't have to worry about my on-board memory. There are other phones that have things the Evo doesn't have, and others down the road will be even better things, so I'm not going to complain about what my Evo doesn't have.

If I wanted to be jealous, I would rather wish the Evo had the Imagination Technologies graphics chip than the extra on-board memory.

Yep. More storage is better. I'm currently only halfwayto having my 16GB card full. But an HD movie (or a couple more 800x480 movies) would get me pretty close...

I'm pretty sure you can't use the built-in 8 Gig to store movies or music. If 16 GB isn't enough, you'll need a bigger micro SD card on either phone.

To answer the OP, I haven't filled up the 1Gig in the Evo yet, so I don't see it as a big problem. Maybe someday I will, but by then it'll probably be time to upgrade my phone.

Adding more memory to a phone is kind of like adding more megapixels to a camera. It really doesn't provide any benefit for most users, but if it has more, it must be better, right?

I wasn't trying to start a Evo vs Droid comparison, or even a 'lets make a wish' thread. Just saying that next-gen smartphones seem to come with a lot more memory and the Evo seems to be an exception. I'd guess that its purely a cost reduction thing.

Also its quite likely in the future memory (flash + sdhc) will be unified, so it won't matter where it is, and the OS, apps and data will be able to share it.

I think the Evo has 8gb of phone memory. 2.2 will be able to access the unused space, it doesnt matter much since the phone takes a sd card.

I doubt it. I don't think the internal memory is something that can be updated by software. I'd imagine it'd be a hardware replacement in order to increase the internal storage.

Next years phones will be even better, some will not only have graphic chips, they will have duo-cores. Don't remember if I saw this on cnet or where, but that's pretty amazing

Where did you hear or see this info about some "phantom" internal storage?

That was from a friend with the Incredible saying the Evo has the same internal storage as the Incredible. That might not be the case reading this

Sprint HTC Evo 4G is fast, but battery life is short - USATODAY.com

Says the phone has 1gb with 358mb free for apps. Maybe 2.2 will increase the internal app storage to more than 358mb? Either way with many apps being developed for 2.2 they can go onto the sd card where internal memory will not be an issue.

Like I said in my quote earlier, I highly doubt that will happen because I don't think the internal storage can be altered by software. I believe that is strictly a hardware issue. If it wasn't built with the storage space on board, you won't be able to access anything that's not there.

I certainly wish it had more storage space. It wouldn't be so bad if we could easily get to our SD card, if it ejected out the side. Unfortunately, it is a pain to get to and microsd cards aren't really coming down in price. We're just barely getting 32gb cards now when they were announced seemingly years ago. I would have gladly paid more for the phone to have 8, 16, or even 32gb of internal storage plus the ability to expand it. That was one of the things the N900 did right. Many people want their phones to act as their mp3 players now and 8 or even 16gb isn't cutting it.

Mm I wish i could have 8gb and for some reason I blame Sprint I mean I had Sprint in the past and Verizon , when I got the BB touch(almost 2 years ago) it came with 8gb internal and 8gb micro SD card and I canceled my Samsung instinct plan which came with 2gb and even now Sprint phones still come with less memory that's my take either way now I'm happy with Sprint and my phone
