Help NOKIA N8 or SAMSUNG GALAXY S

Aside from the camera which i believe is not significantly better than the 5mpxel on the SGS, the SGS wins in every aspect
I agree with you mostly but I believe the camera is significantly better.
12MP <== I don't care much about
Carl Zeiss <== pretty good for a phone
Xenon Flash <== pretty good for shadows and stuff

However, those are not enough to overcome its downfalls.
Arm11 based chip <== really really?
640 x 360 <== not even WVGA
Symbian <== not sure what to say
256MB ram <== enough said

The camera is substantially, even amazingly, better EarlZ, don't know where you got your information.

Its not just the Xenon flash that makes a difference there - it has the largest sensor size yet seen on a phone (which actually makes the 12mp relevant).

If the camera is your primary concern you should probably get the Nokia, but if its just part of the package and a decent camera is good enough then the Galaxy S by a country mile.

Phone for a sixteen year old boy who speaks text?

I know what to choose as an adult. The Samsung blows everything away. I just showed it to an iphone 4 user and i wowed them with the super screen, the weight and the fact you can download files in email.

But a sixteen year old boy might like the funky colours and the sixteen gig memory.

The samsung is more like a business phone and its quite big.

A camera phone is a camera phone, I dont really give anything about its 12mpixel capabilities or how large the sensor size is, bottom line its a camera phone. If i want pretty pictures ill bring a compact DSLR.

A camera on a phone is an important feature to me, so I don't agree with that. You can say it about anything on a phone except making calls, cause well that's what a phone is for. But the N8 takes amazing pics and HD video, so good its to the point where you can leave your point and shoot at home. Here are some samples of pics and video. I really hope theres a droid with an amazing camera like this soon.

Bump.

Hi. I'm selling my DHD because I find it's battery life crap. Ive decided on Nokia N8 green or Galaxy S White.

I tried the Nokia and I really like it but I like Android as well, I can't decide. I'm not really bothered about CPU and ram etc. I've got an iPhone 4 and 3GS. So I'm selling my 3GS and Desire HD. With the money I hope to buy one of the two phones mentioned in this thread.

I like Nokias camera and design. The UI feels similar to the N95 8GB. It's newer than the Galaxy S as well but Galaxy S is Android. I'm leaning towards the Nokia N8 unless some one give a really good reason to stick with iOS and Android and not iOS and Symbian.

I would go with an Android phone over a Symbian one because of Market and the apps, the development. It does not have to be a Galaxy S phone but a high end android would be much better choice than a Nokia.

Also one thing about the Galaxy S Rom, the 2.2 seems to be much better than the 2.1 and reading the forum the 2.2.1 is even better so you can upgrade if you want to.

hi guyz am a 16yr old boy.am unable 2 choose between d galaxy s and nokia n8.my main reqrmnts are-good camera,loads of free apps,software updates etc.i wont be able 2 buy a new fone for 4-5 yrs so........pleez advise

4-5 years then the galaxy s definitely.
Symbian 3 isn't going to be around that long. The hardware of the galaxy s is at least two years future proof. Android is getting better and better. More advanced power hungry applications will be developed and galaxy s will have sufficient hardware to meet that. On the other hand n8 does not. And app support will probably be non-existent anyways.

What's the point in having this great camera if you only have a low-res screen to show with? Yes yes carl zeiss lens xenon flash I know I had a n86 but a Mobile phone camera will always just be a mobile phone cam. Get a real"smart phone" and a real camera. For me due to the ovi store and support nokias don't really qualify as a real smartphone.

Hmm but Samsung said they are unsure if they will give Gingerbread to the Samsung Galaxy S.

Two top Android phones are the Desire HD and Galaxy S. Desire HD and Galaxy S maybe a bit too big thinking about it:/

Android is getting better but it's too hard to choose between the two. I prefer Nokias looks and it's UI but then Android has more support and the Galaxy S has the best mobile screen on the market.

I tested the Desire HD and Galaxy S before I got my DHD and the DHD is by far better than the Galaxy S but its battery is causing me problem so I'm getting a replacement after I send this DHD back. I was give options for various phones including the N8 but the DHD scores a higher rating from reviews and it's the most expensive after the iPhone 4.

Even if the app support is non existing for N8, I'll have my iPhone 4 to rely on for apps but then I want apps like ps1 emulators and apps that download "free" music.

Only if the N8 ran Android with 1ghz CPU n 512ram, id have no problem deciding. I'll have a good few hours thinking about my decision as I've definitely decided to sell my Desire HD.

I personally would go for the Galaxy S, mainly because I have one and I love it.
Android would be the selling factor for me, and if the issues on the Galaxy S people talk about bother you, how about the Nexus S instead? (I know it's still a Samsung but there seems to be no problems with it so far)

The camera may be better on the N8, but there really is NO need for a camera like that on any phone. 99% of people will only ever use a phone or compact camera too upload low resolution versions of the pictures they take onto sites like facebook, and 12mp is only worth it if you either want to print billboard sized photos, or want to take up photography, and if that was the case you would get a DSLR and do it properly.

I'll wait and see because there is no reliable information about this phone yet. Specs and PR and "professional" reviews are not real world useful. For sure the camera is never a deciding factor, if it was then you really need a camera and not a phone.
They seem to have addressed some of the issues but I'd wait at least 6 months before ever buying one. Being first on the block is too risky. Had I waited one more month on the Galaxy I could have avoided a nightmare.

I agree there, Specs always look good on paper but without any real usage tests nobody can say for sure how good the phone is but like you say not waiting can cause major nightmares, but then wait 6 months and there will be a new all singing all dancing top spec device out again so you're stuck with the same dilemma, it's a vicious circle.

personally, and this is totally my opinion never having used an N8 before, but Android would be the deciding factor for me.

Aside from the camera which i believe is not significantly better than the 5mpxel on the SGS, the SGS wins in every aspect

SGs wins in every respect?Sounds really funny!N8s processor is ARM1176 772Mhz(down clocked to 680MHz) and the difference of just 228Mhz in the presence of extremely optimized OS would mean nothing!I think you forgot HDMI,USB on the go,dolby digital plus sound(5.1),anodized aluminium body,stereo audio recording,fm transmitter,dual microphones,hot swappable sim card,life time free offline navigation,web tv and dedicated camera,lock switch,app switch keys.Android is poorly resource heavy that is why they give big rams!You may know tht ram doesn't increase the speed!It is the processor that matters!Nexus s uses about 40Mb for only keyboard!By this you can realize how resoure heavy is android!SGs speakers are below average.This has been proved in Gsm arena's sound test!There are gps issues too.All this stuff in a plastic body!SGs 5MM camera without flash is just obslete now.N8 simply kills SGs by a headshot by its great 12MP Xenon flash camera and the arms,legs and liddle torso of a headshot body don't matter anymore!
in this case,N8 is the best allrounder.
