Is it me or did that whole thing reek of bs? How can Steve Jobs compare the return rates on the iPhone 4 when it has been out less than a month? Dont worry Steve, there is still time. Maybe people were waiting for you to actually address the issue before returning?

Then there are the statistics about dropped calls... How can he compare the dropped calls on the best selling phone in history (3gs) to a phone that has been out less than a month? Sorry if anyone actually believed him but realistically those stastics mean absolutely nothing at this point.

Then he proceeded to compare it to the signal loss experienced on other phones... Sorry Steve but my EVO shows no signal degradation no matter which way I hold it and I hold it just like I would any other phone.

Funny, I actually think Apple did ATT a huge favor because ATT will be blaming failed network connections on the attenna from here on out. If I was running ATT, you can bet I'd be saying it's not the network because other phones seem to work better.

I don't think they did themselves any favors with this PC. They should have given away a multi-pack of clear and colored covers and apologized for the inconvenience. This sure won't stop the class action suits.

AT&T is garbage. I had the original Iphone-3gs and I loved the phone, but jesus, how many dropped calls can one network have? I have since been with Verizon & currently Sprint. In 1.5 years I did not drop a single call with Verizon, unless I was talking to my one hard headed friend who uses AT&T, and my EVO on the Sprint network has been flawless.

I'm not sure anyone said they were unhappy the iphone EXISTS but more like people are unhappy about the attitude apple and its fanboys take regarding the iphone.
As for the question of having smartphones with similar features, it's impossible to speculate either way. There were phones before iphone that had apps and touchscreens etc. maybe it just would have taken longer to get to the level we're at today.
Also I would be laughing about Jobs' responses today but I know that people are eating it up.

Eh, I would say most of their innovation is recycling other ideas. Go play with Windows 3.0 and then an iPhone. Pretty much the same GUI. Facetime may be polished, but video calls on cell phones is not new. HTC also had a touchscreen smartphone out years before the first iPhone. They just do a good job of talking features up and taking credit.

The 2 things that struck me as really odd.

1.) They did not know of this issue before launch. Just learning of it now. But to be honest, that can not be true. Not if they have 18 phd's working full time on it. The first test we do with a new product is to see if we can cover or hide the antenna to see if there will be a problem.

tsipa- you can get a signal drop with the evo. But you have to really, really work at it. First, get to the edge of the network with only one tower near you. Secondly, hold the with the palm of your hand over the camera and flash area. Then, rotate the phone so the screen is facing the direction of the antenna. This should give you about a -10db drop. Enough to drop a call.

2.) The 3gs vs iphone 4 drop call issue. Was it just me or did he just lie to us. For example. If the 3gs drops 98 calls and the iphone 4 drops 99 calls out of 100 calls. Can the be considered a better antenna. He first tells us that it is a better design, then he hides the lie between two truths. It is worst then 3gs and it then hides the number of dropped calls out of a hundred.

Of course this is apple, you are lucky they are not charging you for the 1 good call that went through. After all that was a premium service there. And it was by the grace of almighty jobs that you are not getting your butt charged for that good call. All praise jobs.

I could care less whether the iPhone exists or not. While I do think that the iPhone is good for competition, and did popularize the touch screen interface (although it wasn't the first to do so), I don't think it single handedly created the smartphone market. The market was there prior to the iPhone's initial release, and would have been at a similar level without the iPhone. Things may have been somewhat different aesthetically without the iPhone, but not dramatically different than what we have now.

Apple isn't as much of an innovator as some in the industry try to make them out to be. They are good at taking existing ideas, polishing them up, and making them look much more refined. That's where Jobs and his crew shine.

That is the exact point.....thats why most of these "Patent Battles" become null and void or go into limbo.

Majority of iPhone's features are NOT new, they are just existing features from earlier phones that was polished up.....all Apple did was market them damn well.

Did Apple help in creating the Smartphone Era we have now, sure they did, but only from a competition stand point.

If you honestly believe Apple is the creator of all smart phones, then you really need to just crawl in a hole and keep your iPhone close to your chest. Jobs has trained you well.

Steve took the opportunity to rip on bigger rivals, saying that making a phone so big "you can't get your hand around it" helps, but that "no one's going to buy that."

He should spend time worrying why a lot of his devices are having problems accomplishing the main task they're designed, making calls.

The thing is, it's hard to feel a bit of sympathy for iPhone consumers, because unlike back in 2007 or even in 2008, they now have choice. No one is forcing them to stick with Apple or AT&T. There is absolutely no reason for them to pay thousands of dollars over the life of a contract to have a crippled, faulty phone on an inferior network (in some places).
They prefer brand over productivity. If they are happy with Steve's solution to their problem, then ... well, good luck with that.

I don't see that in those specs but I will take your word that they're there. And what's this "I know I know" bullshit? You think I'm siding with jobs? Learn to read.

I swapped my Iphone for a HTC Desire after 3 days of trying to d/grade to 3.1.3 cause they have stopped signing the firmware. as far as i am concerned bricking it would not of changed much.
