So i took the plunge and rooted my evo. Now what?

How do i install roms?
What else should i be doing?

I would check out xda-developers.com for your roms. VERY informational. Installing roms is as simple as finding the one you want, putting it on your SD card, and flashing it through recovery.

I cannot stress enough though.. READ EVERYTHING about these roms. Everything you need to know will be provided in usually the first post release notes of each rom by the devs.

You also want to look into apps. Android tether is a good one to start, for free tethering, if you're interested in that.

Might I recommend if you're looking for a rom that just works, with nothing too fancy, check out Fresh Evo. I'm running it and LOVE it. Then you can get into different kernels and mods and such simply through his app in his rom (fresh updater)

Let me know if you have any more questions, but like I suggested, take a trip to xda and start learning

been browsing xda for a bit now, decided that fresh is the one i want. quick question though, how do i get the rom in my sdcard, also do i put it there as a zip file or the folder?

also, doing the simple root downgraded my phone software...how do i get it back to 1.47?

Latest rom versions of fresh and damagecontrol are based on 1.47

You download the file on your computer, theN transfer to the sd connecting the phone to the pc, or sd reader

Yes. Plug your phone into your computer. Pull down the top, unless it pops up automatically and select disk mode. Drag the zip to the root of your sd card. Power off. Hold volume down while powering on. It will check for boot img file. Let it go. After that a screen will come up (fastboot, recovery, etc.) Select recovery, flash zip from sd, fresh. Booya

You can transfer the file using windows explorer no need to use htc sync

android-wifi-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code ? Mine is working out of the box. Some have mentioned having to uninstall/reinstall tho. Try that if you're getting FCs

Yes sir. For safe measures, I flashed the radio, then rebooted, then powered off and flashed wimax. You will see them apply after you reboot after flashing, so I just wanted to be safe with them writing.

What root method did you use? Are you fully NAND unlocked. (RW capabilites)

Hmm.. haven't used that. I don't use the root programs. You could hit up toasts part 2 as I'm not sure if that method fully unlocks you.

This will flash an engineering build allowing FULL root. Accessing, reading, and writing from withing android

I followed toasts part 1 before that link (part 2). I got the same exclamation point after step 1, however, and after proceeding with step 2 I had no more issues. I think you do have root, so you should be fine just proceeding with that link I posted.

If that doesn't work, you could always flash the RUU and start from scratch. But I think simple root is just step 1 in a program.
