Anyone come from an HTC Eris??

hey guys i currently have a HTC Eris, ive had it for about 3 days now...i really like the phone but theres just something about it that im not really feeling anymore, it could be the battery doesnt last too long or maybe the fact that it doesnt have a real keyboard to use when needed (ive had an iphone before)..so im just wondering if anyone has come from an Eris to the Droid an what they feel about it, thank you

I'm actually in the reverse position. I find myself not using the keyboard that often and absolutely HATE the fact that it doesn't have call and end keys. That and the Sense UI is definitely a lot more polished.

I came from the Touch Pro2 to the Droid and I dont regret it one bit. In my opinion the Moto Dorid is a better investment than the Eris BUT at the same time anybody would be lucky to have the Eris...

One thing to keep in mind. I would not switch to the Moto Droid just for the keyboard .Nice to have available but I almost always use the soft keyboard over the hardware. Its just THAT good and I know the HTC virtual is as well.

What other reasons do you have for switching?

well i think the keyboard is still something i might use...the phone i had before the Eris was a 8900 curve an i could type like a champ on that because blackberry keyboards are just good for that stuff.....the battery life is a real big issue for me as well...like i said i had an 8900 before this which i would charge every couple of days an it would last. i went to verizon to originally look at the droid an the eris caught my eye i think cause it looked cool, but maybe the droid is what i really need instead?

ive even thought about canceling verizon all together an going back to ATT for the blackberry bold 9700, i heard the battery on that is amazing an the keyboard is the same!....im real confused lol

I came from the Sprint Hero, pretty much the Eris, with an experience of two weeks. The Eris is sleek, its small, its chic. Its a cool phone with a very polished feel. It reminded me very much of a stylish item with good function. All in all it was a very good phone.

The Eris lacks the power that the Droid has. Where the Eris will flash the Droid will flex. The Droid is the geek's item. Its solid to the touch, huge, vibrant, well built and really doesn't have much of sensual flow that the Eris gives but what can you expect with a stock OS. It too is a very good phone.

So really its what do you want? A very polished and sleek phone or a powerhouse thats built tough.

Out of curiosity , did you pay a restocking fee?

When I upgraded to the Droid this past Saturday, the rep mentioned nothing about a restocking fee or else I wouldn't have jumped into the Droid as quickly. Would I be able to get the restocking fee waived if I decided to get it exchanged?

I got rid of my iPhone 3GS and picked up the Eris. I had it for 4 days before returning it. It was just too slow and the screen was too small for me. I switched to the Droid and I haven't missed the iPhone since. I'm actually getting great battery life. Maybe it just seems that way because the iPhone was so awful, but I've been very happy with it so far.

I will be coming to Droid from the Eris. Probably next week. I like the Eris, but I like the screen on the Droid big time. I also like the faster processor (my brother got a Droid and I can definitely notice a difference). Just seems more future proof.

BTW, at Best Buy they told me they do NOT have a restocking fee if I wanted to eventually (within 30 days) trade the Eris for the Droid...My brother bought his at a Verizon store, and they said they do indeed have a $35 restocking fee...

My most used apps on the iPhone were probably Tweetie and Facebook. Twidroid Pro is every bit as good as Tweetie imho. There might even be a better Twitter app for Android but I haven't found it. Facebook is better on the iPhone but I have a feeling Android will catch up. I hate that I don't have an inbox or anyway to send Facebook messages in the native app. I've found some great apps in the Android market that you just can't find for iPhone without unlocking. NES, SNES, ad Genesis emulators are a great example. Ringdroid is an awesome app as well. Sure as hell beats paying for music ringtones on iTunes. So yeah, overall I've been impressed with the quality and selection.

There is indeed a $35 Verizon restocking fee on exchanges. I have not ever paid it myself. They are usually pretty lenient on the phone. I only dealt with them in person in a corporate store once and I left the store furious in an outrage. I did not keep my cool and it didnt help the situation

If there is something physically wrong with the phone they will waive the restocking fee or if you flat out cancel the line within the 30 day WFG there is no restocking fee , or at least they have never charged me one. SO they way i understand it is that the restocking fee is on exchanges only. BUT every year they tighten the reighs a little more. There didnt use to be a restocking fee at all.....

She told me I would need to pay this "restocking fee" you speak of... But, I informed her that I would not pay it when I return the phone today.

When I first purchased the Motorola Droid they did not state there was a restocking fee. I purchased the HTC at full retail, but will get the price adjusted when I return the Motorola. Didn't have time to give them the phone when I was at the store, needed to transfer some photos and ensure my data was wiped.

I guess I'll find out today - might need to make a few calls to the business center after my visit. I'll let you know.
