Currently on verizon but possibly looking at sprint....need help and suggestions

ok so I know this has been talked about forever and forever lol. I am currently on Verizon using a Motorola droid which is an awesome phone btw. I am looking to possibly switching over to Sprint due to the high Verizon bill and the really great deal Sprint has going on with the everything data family plan they have. I live in Ozark, Mo just south of Springfield, Missouri and need your help on deciding. What is the service like, pro's and con's. I like Verizon and have nothing against them other than the high bill. Thanks again,

Have you checked the coverage map?

If they say they have service, then give them a go. 30 day test drive, no fees if you return.. about half way in if you like it, you can still port your existing number over.

Well I tried that app but it sure has a lot of blank spots. Especially for verizon. Is there a better app out there to show more up to date info?

The Sprint coverage map is pretty accurate. Also, the Sprint Free Guarantee is a great incentive to at least try Sprint in your area. If you do not like the service, cancel it within 30 and you get your money back that you put out.

Ok I think I will be giving that a try. I found out I am able to roam on sprint and still get all of sprints services, so it's a great deal. Now if only I could fine a Evo 4G lol

Ya I'm thinking about it. The samsung moment has been nothingg but problems especially with all the usb drivers install attemps. Also that phone seems to lag and also is so sloww compared to the motorola droid.

With screens at 4-4.3", sliders aren't as necessary. My wife thought she'd want a slider, but she's very happy without it. The future has more and more text-speech simplification and use so even typing will go down. I voice most of my texts when I'm not in an noisy environment.

About coverage, I'd recommend you just plan an evening with a friend and do a coverage comparison while hitting a few spots and going where you'll spend most of your time.

I looked at coverage maps that all indicated VZW and ATT coverage much stronger than Sprint in my NJ location. Turns out nothing could be further from the truth. I dropped ATT calls all the time despite being in the strongest coverage area and less than 1-2 miles from antennae in almost every direction.

Be careful about roaming though. Sprint reserves the right to cancel service for anyone who spends more than 1/2 their time or over 800 mins roaming or something like that.

Haha ok I won't. Usually samsung is the bomb. The moment looks nice, I like the keyboard but I think samsung messed it up but time lol.

My Samsung Instinct has some software glitches, but hardware wise, it's a rock. I have beat the hell out of this thing and have never had any issues with the hardware.

I know it may be a bit far from you, but I was in Branson, Mo recently for a family reunion. I was pleasently surprised with how good sprints service was. Especially considering the terrain. Like many has said, take advantage of the 30 return policy if need be. Sprint has the best wireless plans out. I use the Everything Data 450 for 70 bucks (80 on EVO or Epic) and its great. Unlimited data and inlimited calling to any cell on ANY network. None of this extra fee BS at Sprint. Seems like VZW and ATT nickle and dimb the hell out of ya, then cap the data! anyways, sorry for the rant at the end, give Sprint a try.

lol well I went just for fun to wireless.att.com and saw that you can no longer get unlimited data plans....very dumb move considering the Iphone (shhhh i didn't say that) to me if i had one of those phones, and stuck with 2gb or less i would use that in a week lol. Also now it seems at if verizon will start that possibly at the end of this month so Sprint is looking better and better

ATT and VZW will tell you that they aren't limiting data. They're just communicating to you how much you're going to pay.

So in the salad bar of wireless, ATT and VZW say "Eat all you want. We'll settle the bill based on how much you ate. By the way, anything but lettuce (calls) weighs more (uses more data and taxes our network) but you can still have all you want. Just look to us for the bill when you're done." Sprint's approach is "One flat price for whatever you eat at our salad bar - it's all the same to us as long as you keep coming back to dine with us. We don't have as much as those other restaurants, and we're under new management that's made improvements from what this place used to be."

If Sprint stays with it's current style of plans as these new tiered plans go into place, that's where Sprint will get it's new customers.

I just switched from Big Red to Sprint two months ago. I had been with Verizon for almost 10 years and always liked them. The only problem was that I wanted a better rate and Sprint was too good to not try. I live in NC, my parents in MI (they were on Verizon as well), and I asked them to join me on Sprint. We bundled the everything data family with 4 phones and now pay about the same for unlimited data, messaging, plenty of voice, etc. for the same price as we paid for just voice on Verizon. Granted, having my parents jump on with us provided even more savings, but so far I am pretty happy.

I pretty much never dropped calls with Verizon (once in a blue moon), with the exception of a dead spot just before our exit on the freeway, so I was very happy with Verizon's coverage. So far I haven't dropped a call on Sprint in two months, and coverage seems great so far. I have dealt with customer service in returning my original phone under the 30-day policy, I returned a Pixi and got my Hero... it was very easy and I had no trouble. No restocking fee or any hidden fees, just had to pay the difference in phone costs from free Pixi to $80 Hero. My parents also ended up exchanging the Pixis for Pres... and my wife kept her Pixi. We have all been very happy with Sprint two months in, and paying the same price for unlimited data, messaging, sprint nav, etc., and having the same number of voice minutes is pretty sweet. It's also nice that sprint is unlimited any mobile to any mobile since almost everyone I talk to is on a mobile, we don't use anywhere near as many minutes as we did with verizon since they are only unlimited in network.

had a small affair with verizon....above average CS....Att is by far the shittiest CS i have ever had (cstmr since 2003)

Sprint has been Fkn AWESOME, best service ever. waived all the fees , free airave and waived the monthly fee eternally. Then like 4 days after called to see if i was happy with the service and the airave was working as i expected also to see if i needed any assistance with my phone or if i had questions.

they have done this multiple times already i was in shock of how good their service is. People are super nice too.

My ATT CS was always terrible. They were great at selling and adding features, but it took an act of divine intervention to get any problems quickly and effectively remedied.

I haven't had any issues with Sprint. I switched to Sprint for the Evo so I can't speak to Sprint of years' past. The only thing I can say though is that the people who sell Sprint phones don't seem to be any better or worse than others. The Sprint store locations aren't as ubiquitous as ATT, VZW, or even TMo in my area so I'm a bit surprised the store clerks don't go above and beyond to stand out in a good way.

My Moment seems really nice compared the the Eris I had on Verizon. Mine shipped with 2.1 tho maybe a lot of the issues were prior to that being released. Not sure what people are saying about the drivers if I plug my in on Win 7 it is instantly ready to go.

So if I try out Sprint with a new activation and new number, I can still port in my old number to replace the new one??

Yup you can in fact do this. Just did it today. I still had my verizon phones active and everything. had a new phone from sprint which was the Samsung Moment with a different number. I was then able to go back today which was about 7 days from activation, and was able to upgrade to 2 HTC EVO's which rock and was able to use my old numbers that were ported within 5 minutes and bam, up and running. lol. So yet it's possible and extremely easy.
