From the EVO to the Droid X...Thoughts?

Sup guys I got the droid X today and also returned my EVO...have to say I think I made the right decision at least so far. Some of my comparison thoughts between the 2

-Droid X seems to have a slightly sharper screen, as well as a broader color base. I also like the fact that the screen is a true 16:9 screen which helps with youtube clips and pictures.

-Droid X feels much higher in quality and has a better feel overall. It's also much thinner than the EVO and the hump does not bother me at all, gives it a unique design element.

-Dedicated camera button is very nice (small feature, I know) but I greatly prefer it to a touch screen button

-Many will feel differently but I actually prefer physical buttons to the soft keys on the EVO, can't really pintpoint why exactly they just feel more sturdy and I like to be absolutely sure I'm pressing the correct button.

-Better battery life on the Droid X, by far.

Having said all that, there are a few things I will miss from the EVO, they are:

-the UI. I prefer sense UI to Moto's UI. They both get the job done performance wise I just like the aesthetics of sense much more than the moto widgets. They don't really go along with the rest of android IMO.

-Kickstand is mostly a gimmick but it does help when watching videos, albeit not by much.

-Camera...hopefully this is just because I have not received the latest OTA update, but so far (this is from VERY limited testing btw), I actually like the EVO's camera more. Seems less grainy. Again though, I've barely tried out the X's camera so this could easily be reversed.

-Complete haptic feedback (texting, browser). Maybe this is a setting I haven't found on the X yet but it seems to not have haptic feedback when texting and entering any sort of text as the EVO does. Another small thing but coming from an iphone 3g jailbroken with complete haptic I do miss it a bit.

Well that's it for now, of course there's the fact of verizon's service being much better than sprint's where I live, but that is purely regional. Let me know what you guys think and if anyone else jumped from the EVO to this phone, what do you think?

I have to agree with pretty much everything you said. Although I do like Motorola's UI just as much as I liked Sense. The more I used Sense the more I wanted to get away from it. My first Evo was really messed up and my second one still had issues so I ended up selling it on Craigslist and going back to Verizon. My Incredible had some really bad issues so I was not too surprised to see some issues with the Evo. The thing I like most about the Droid X is the screen and the build quality. I also really like the buttons.

As for the haptic feedback you will need to go into the keyboard settings and turn it on. It is turned off by default. With Sprint my phone never rang while I was in my house in a good coverage area so I am really happy to be back with Verizon.

That all makes good sense, but the kickstand really needs to be on all large phones from now on. I find it pretty useful.

moondrius I enabled haptic feedback but it still doesn't work when I am using the keyboard at all, is that how it is for you? it works for other things just not for that. Yeah kickstand is useful but I definitely don't miss it all that much, its a very minor thing to me at least

i don't know guys, i had the incredible for three weeks and i think that interface was better than the X. granted i've only had the x for two days but little things are bugging me. Texting in the incredible seemed so much easier with it's smart suggestions and the haptic feedback everytime i typed anything. this X says it's on but doesn't vibrate ever. also when you want to make a call you could just start to type out the contact in the incredible, but on the X you have to scroll thru everyone. like i said, just little things, but they're bothering me.... what do you guys think????

The kickstand leather case is $25 from VZW and other places-voila, no more kickstand superiority for EVO. Look for cheaper knockoffs. Also gogostand(?) fits in ur wallet adn can be expanded out

I totally agree. But you do get haptic feedback with swype keyboard. Get Dialer One from the market it will do wonders plus colors! LauncherPro interface will ease your Sense fix a bit lol

2. Select Language & Keyboard
3. Select multi-touch keyboard
4. Switch vibrate to on

I never had an Evo, but I've had other phones with Sense (HTC Hero) and personally I think it's starting to look a bit dated. I actually prefer the cleaner look of Moto's UI, and the utility is much better.

Most importantly, the resize function, and the ability to swap widgets on a full home screen is great; it saves the hassle of either deleting a widget to free up space or moving it to another empty screen (assuming you have one)

I do like LauncherPro but I'm holding off on using it until they update it to support resizing widgets. (also the "Contact Quick Tasks" widget doesn't work with LauncherPro)

Pretty much agree with everything, except for the physical buttons which have a 'cheap' feel to them.

The camera on the dx does seem grainy, at least looking at them on the phone. Plus the small thumbnails in the gallery look horrible for some reason.

Also, I think the browser on the Evo is better done than on the dx regarding zoom/reformat and copy/paste.

For anyone who likes the htc keyboard, you can download an app from xda developers called htc_ime mod. Just install it using astro and you can switch back and forth.

matty, i'm referring to the fact that on the incredible you just hit the phone icon the dialer pops up and right then and there you can start typing the name using the number pad and it figures out who's name your typing. you just click on it and it's dialing. with this X here, which still hasn't won me over, you have to go through four steps just to get to the search page. too many steps, not smart enough for me. froyo better be a lot smarter or else i'm going to be pissed...

haptic on the keyboard doesn't lag so much on the messaging side so much as the browser side of things. atleast it has on every other android phone I've tried. Hopefully the processor in the X will nullify this.

Awesome thanks man! Yep that crosses off one of my cons...I am definitely happy I switched from the EVO to the X, the major downside at least for me is the quality of the pics on the X, at least in low light situations

if you want to quickly bring up a contact, press the Search button (magnifying glass) and type the contact name.

hey shotgun, i thought i was the only one who has been annoyed with the fact that it's too long of a process to find a contact number on the droid x. after switching from the incredible, it seems so weird that motorola didn't allow access to contacts thru the keypad dialer like most android devices do!?

I think you can put on haptic feedback for texting in the settings it just comes stock with it turned off

hit the menu button and you can type in the first few letters of the name you are looking for and it will come up
