Captivate Free at WalMart

Unbelievable sale at WalMart right now. Free with no contract or 2 year renewal, $229 without a contract. Got mine ordered off contract and overnight delivery for additional $19. No tax, no activation free, and best of all, no need to deal with AT&T store people about dropping price from $500 or switching to a hobbled data plan. If you are more patient than me, they offer $9 for two day shipping or free shipping options as well.

Update: The $229 price without contract is now dead. Free phone with a new 2 year contract still stands.

As a Walmart cell phone dealer, I have to say this is nuts, I've never seen them do this before. I hope the in store price is this low when I go in this afternoon. Which I doubt, as the online prices are always lower than in store.

The only thing keeping me from moving to Att is the 2GB data plan limit.

This is a specific deal through letstalk.com. It is not a Wal-Mart Deal. I tried to see if an upgrade of my line on my family plan qualified for this because I was going to take back the Captivate I got at ATT but if you are upgrading a phone on a family plan it is still the regular pricing.

Hmmm odd. I'm guessing it's not line 1 of your family plan?
"This instant discount applies only to individual plans or line 1 of a family plan."

Now I am just going to AT&T today to return my iPhone 4, get my money and activation fees back, and have them switch me back to the sim card in my 3GS.

My Captivate will be here on Tuesday and I can just swap the sim into there (I hope!)

I am finally a convert and free of APPLE!!! YAAAA!!!

Some folks are reporting that this is showing "attention required" as the status. It's obviously a price mistake, that they may not honor. I have heard of some horror stories with LetsTalk.

What kind of horror stories? Maybe the universe balances itself out and we will get some happy stories to cancel those out.

I am not taking a chance on this Walmart deal because I don't think it will fly and because I cannot stand Walmart lol. I will be heading to my local AT&T store at noon and purchasing it there for $200.

Since my Ipod Touch has been broken for a week with the white screen of death, I will finally have something, better, that I can enjoy!

Don't count your chickens until the phone is in your hands. That price is obviously an error. Maybe you'll get lucky, more than likely, not.

I called the sales department (1-800-539-1871) and talked to a Rep (you have to push 2, as all other options take you to a voice recording about the offices being closed). I asked what Customer Attention Needed means. She said that that status was because there were some additional questions I needed to answer from their fulfillment department and then they would ship the phone, and to call tomorrow morning at 8 (I think that's CDT, because they are in Texas). She then ended the call with enjoy your phone. They haven't flagged my order as a pricing mistake (yet). She was able to cancel my other accidental double order, but couldn't get red of the customer attention needed status. At least that part is not about a pricing mistake.

Like I said, don't hold your breath. Chances are slim to none you will get it for that price. I hope you do (and I hope I do as well). These types of companies are not in business to sell phones off contract (they make their money from contract commissions) and to sell it for HALF of what AT&T sells it for is highly unlikely (unless you are renewing your contract).

I would strongly suggest you make a screen print of the page that shows the price and says "phone only" for your records.
