Root Verizon OTA update with root

just got the update notice, I'm guessing if we have root we shouldn't do this update, right?

I'm actually surprised you got a notification at all if you are rooted--unless you've never flashed a custom ROM...?. Most custom ROMs have the otacerts.zip file renamed so that they won't get the update notification...

If you are rooted, you typically do not want to receive such an update for fear that it will unroot you (this depends on the type of update you migth receive, of course, but its best to let the devs / ROM developers re-cook their custom ROMs with the new fixes inside them).

Well I tried applying the update with plainjane and it failed. But the newest plainjane already has the update in it and I was going to install that anyways. Hopefully my signal gets better with this update.

The newest plain jane already has this month's update? Can you give me a link to the version of plain jane that has it? Specifically the software version that starts with 2.37 not 2.36.

Ok if I'm reading this correct. Lets say I root today and leave the phone stock but only root. I should still get the update OTA and when applied it will unroot my phone in turn I will have to root again but I shouldn't have any issues doing it? Is this correct?
I plan on rooting but I want to make sure I will be able to patch and either keep my root or be able to do it again with no issues. If I didn't have issues I would have been rooted a few days ago.

i have t2noob's plain jane and updated the radio file through xda

Firmware version
2.1

Baseband version
2.42.01.04.27

Kernel version
2.6.29
zanfur@gandalf #46

Build number
PlainJaneT2 V2.0

FWIW, the Baseband stayed the same when I rooted, as that's the same baseband that I have now after the update then rooting.
