Would you..

I just hope this puts an end to the idea of using your phone as a fashion statement.

Doubt it.
The next thing will come along and people that don't have it will somehow become less human because they do not own said toy.

One thing bugging me about this fiasco is why the last day of September?
Why not August?
What about customers buying their iWidget POST September 30th?
I have a feeling that they are making a design change, and on September 30 they will have implemented it.

The case is to buy them time, so they won't have to admit they screwed up.

They did admit there was a problem which is why people get a free case. Of course handing out free cases isn't good for their bottom line, which is why I'm sure they'll have some cheaper solution by then. All companies make mistakes. All of our phones aren't perfect. I think we spend too much time harping on Apple when we should be talking about Android since, oh I don't know, this is an Android forum.

Cases will not hurt the bottom line period.
It's too small of a blip.
A few million dollars is easy to lose in a sea of billions.

This was a choice that helped their bottom line because it's such a cheap solution to a very expensive problem.
It buys them time to fix the issue and sweep it under the rug in classic Apple style.
They don't admit fault and they quietly fix it while their fanboys protect and serve.
By the time the class actions come around it will be such a non-issue it won't survive.

What's wrong with having an aesthetically pleasing phone? Nothing. I have trouble justifying an EVO or a DX just because of their brick-like nature. If they have to squeeze tight to fit in my pocket, or have a kickstand to watch movies because the screen is just THAT big, no thanks.

There's a big difference between a nice clean looking phone and a phone you buy because you want to show it off to other people and try to impress them.

I suppose, generally they can be the same for the people who are looking for the latter. Most of the ones people buy to show off are nice, clean phones.

To each his own. What's to show off when everybody and their dog has one these days. :D

I think the problem is that a bigger size would break compatibility with all of those ipod/iphone dock accessories.

Thats a good point, iv never thought of that. But you know this iphone people.. they will just fork out that much more money for their precious new phone. I wonder if a larger screen would mess up the touch screen on the phone since they use that electromagnetic field stuff.

No, that stuff is done on purpose.
Apple is not the only manufacturer that plays that game.

What I can see Apple doing here in another incarnation of the iPhone is a dock that involves no socket... something like the current incarnation of the Nexus One dock.
As soon as the phone hits the dock it establishes a bluetooth connection, routes your audio, etc into the dock and charges via 3 contacts on the phone.
No plugs, no mess.

Apple will call this 'new' and 'innovative' and 'it will change the world'
I am just waiting for them to do it, and I know they will.

Ok.. as I was typing this post.. I decided I should Google this.
I saw this:
Patent for new iPhone/iPad contact-less dock appears | TodaysiPhone.com

See, here is the problem with this..... they are getting a PATENT on this?
So, now everyone that has ACTUAL product on the market right now that utilizes this method will get sued by Apple.
I am calling that too.... Apple will SUE everyone that has a contactless dock next year, and yes there are products that use contactless docks already.

So.. more patent trolling soon!

I am not sure if my understanding is correct or not but even if apple were to be awarded the patent for this they wouldnt be able to sue as the tech was already available for consumers prior to apple's filing. apple didnt develop the technology, they are patenting someone elses idea as the products are already available. if they were to sue it could easily be proved that apple didnt come up with this tech, that all they did was put a patent on already available consumer goods.

Actually, it's like the Nexus One dock, but with induction charging. They aren't going to even have a charger cable for that iPhone style.

However, I find it hard to believe that they can put someone else's patented technology into a common item and patent that.

I'm going to patent the inductive charging desk... place your item on the desk and it automatically charges!
