I have a new Droid X, and it's an incredible phone. I've been a BB user for years, so there has been a bit of a learning curve. I have tried to use the PDAnet app (USB) with no luck to tether the phone. I can connect to it via bluetooth, but it is painfully slow. I did check the "USB Debugging" button as instructed, I have the app installed on my phone and the latest desktop app installed on the laptop(MAC). When I click on the PDAnet icon I get a "phone not attached" message. Any hints, tips, suggestions? And thanks for all the useful info I have found on this forum already!

Make sure the phone connects to the computer before trying to use PDANet. I am using PDANet with Windows 7 64 bit without a problem, but I connected it to the computer first.

I had the same problem on my Macbook Pro. Make sure to choose to connect as a USB device when given the choice and not as . . . I don't remember the other option. Two options pop up on the Droid screen though. The other option seemed more intuitive so I chose it and kept getting the same message you're getting. It's working fine now, obviously.

I believe that when the phone connects to the Mac, you have to configure the phone to make the SD card available to the Mac. I choose the "USB Mass Storage" option on the phone when I connect the USB cable. PDANet then works properly. I don't think the other options work.

Where do you do this? on the phone, the MAC? Where do you find this?

The other option is "connect with Bluetooth". It actually requires turning on the BT on your phone and computer, paring them. So it's not the obvious choice to me. I can connect with BT, but it's pretty slow. I want the damn thing to connect via USB.

Once the Droid is connected to the Mac there will be a USB symbol on the Droid notifications toolbar at the top left... open the notifications, choose the "USB Connection" item and then you should have the options available such as "PC Mode" "Windows Media Sync" "USB Mass Storage" "Charge only", if you choose the USB Mass Storage the Droid will immediatly connect back to the Mac, the network driver will load abd you can connect PDANet client on the Mac and you are connected!

assume (for the sake of accuracy) that i am not real tech savvy. i set up my wife's droid w/ pdanet and it worked great, w/ no problems. my droid x came w/ pdanet preloaded, but i can't get it to work. i subscribe to the 3g mobile hotspot and am connected to the web w/ this. can anyone give me a step by step for setting up pdanet on my x (our computers are pc's)?

Thanks to the info provided here I was able to connect my Win7 (x64) notebook via USB through my DroidX to the internet. I am using this connection as I am typing this reply.

While there was no other software necessary to connect via BlueTooth, USB connectivity seems to have required a supporting component such as the PDAnet previously mentioned.

I just upgraded from a 1st gen Droid to Droid X yesterday. I tried getting PdaNet to work but even though I can connect, I cannot get on to the net at all.

I'm running on a MacBook Pro. I did the debugging thing. I've made sure I have USB Mass Storage picked as the main option on my Droid. But I still can't use the Droid as a modem to connect.

What am I doing wrong?

What drivers need to be installed, and where do I get em?

This a MAC not a PC.

Hello,

I have a MacBook Air and decided to pay for the pro version because I made the mistake of purchasing a VZN wireless dongle and pay the fee. The fee was $30 and I used up all the allotted bandwidth in less than a week!
I have a DX and began to use PDANet with the original Droid.

Sometimes the PDANet files can get corrupted on either end from time to time. I would reinstall the application on both devices and then do the following:
-Double click on the PDANetMac icon in the Applications folder to make sure that the PDANetMac icon appears at the top of the finder window. It should have red circle with an 'x' to indicate it is not connected to the internet.

If you have access to wifi, make sure that you turn 'Airport off' for this test.

-On your phone, go to 'Settings-Application Settings-Development' and check 'USB debugging' and click 'OK' when the dialog screen comes up.

-Plug in the microUSB cable to your phone and computer in the usual way. If any program on your computer opens by accident, close the program.

-Set the USB connection on the phone from 'Charge' to 'Mass Storage'

-On your phone click on the PDANet icon/shortcut. Click on 'Enable USB tether'.

The circle on the PDANetMac icon in the Finder will change from the red circle to a small globe when you are successfully connected.

Open your browser of choice and have fun.

I've installed PdaNet on my Droid X and it has worked great for tethering my laptop. However, after each PdaNet use, the phone does not recognize I have an SD card installed. It will not show the available space on the card and I cannot access the photos I've taken. The only way I have found to solve this problem is to turn the phone off then back on.

Does anyone know of a better way to resolve this problem?
