Help HTC EVO 4G Music player issue

Can someone please help me, this is driving me insane!!! I have the HTC EVO. I switched from the iPhone. I know the music player probably isnt as good, but all I want to do is listen to my music. lol. Now the problem I am having is this. I put about 4gb of music on it. I go to play it and it works fine, for one song. I start the music and just want to let it play, but after the one song plays it starts the next one in line and about half way through, it stops. EVERY SINGLE TIME!! The only way it will stay playing, is if I change the songs one by one myself. I have tried different music player apps, and nothing seems to work. Is there something wrong with my phone, or is there just a setting i can change? thanks

It's more likely you have some corruption on your SD card - that's not common, but neither is it rare.

If that is indeed the issue, and if it's left unchecked, that will creep along and soon start to cause any number of problems for you.

I'd strongly suggest that you back up your SD card to your PC (Win or Mac or Linux) via the USB cable, delete that song from your backup, re-format your SD card (via your PC), restore your backup, and then re-copy that song to your EVO.

Others have found that this advice works very well when encountering the sort of problem you're facing right now.

PS - This isn't so much a technology issue as a supplier issue. Others have stated that it seems very clear that some SD cards were not formatted correctly at the factory and have reported all sorts of wonderful improvements with an SD card re-format, including increased battery life.

In other words - whatever your situation, the above advice really couldn't hurt anything.

No good! I completely backed it up on my laptop, then formatted it. Then restored it. And it still does the same thing. This is driving me nuts. Any other ideas?

OK - next step then - how is your music arranged? Is it all in one directory? Subdirectories?

The path I'm going down is whether it's too hard for the beast to make a worthwhile song list and manage things if it's too long...

Also, you mentioned trying different apps already - may I ask which ones besides the stock player? Don't know if that'll lead anywhere, but I'm happy to help try to check for any various shared limits or something.

i have maybe 4 or 5 folders that the music is in. umm a couple just called music player, and boomboxoid, and kiss music player.

I'm looking for, like, hundreds of songs in a single folder.

Also - don't know if this will help at all - I'm still deciding if I want to transition to my EVO as my main music player, so I'm not YET in the position your are with hundreds of songs on your phone... have you tried the Meridian Media Player (Market)? I ask because it seems to want to give lots of playlist options, so if it's number of songs related, - well, you know ...

No, it's totally free and way cool - in addition to the usual, it supports lossless formats like FLAC, ALAC, and WAV (and other popular, non-proprietary, lossy formats such as AAC) and also provides a place to view video - so, it's more than your average bear music player.

thanks for the recommendation. I tried it, but still no good. I only get about 5-6 minutes of straight music play then it just stops. it doesnt matter what music player i use, its all the same. I've watched a movie on here and it works great. I just dont understand why its doing this.

Hey, I had a similar problem with my Moment and the Music player. First thing was to back up the card (photos, videos, docs...) Then reformat the card in the phone not in the computer. Windows formats the cards differently than Android so it will continue to have issues until you format it in the device itself.

Then mount the phone to the PC, restore items slowly... One photo folder at a time, One video folder at a time... Check every once in a while to make sure the files are corrupted and you should be good to go.

The issue was probably caused by a write error in windows going back to the card, but it could be a bum file as well so keep your eyes on them.

Oh heck - one more thing, regardless of which way you go - never restore the LOST+FOUND directory from a backup. That's not for users.

Are you moving the headphone cable at all? Will it stop if you leave it sit completely still?

There is an issue common on EVOs where the headphone jack can be overly sensitive, thinking you plugged in a headset (which causes it to do things like pause, voice dial, etc at random).

@Vincent Law Hadn't heard that one before, but sure enough, the switch between the headset and earphones can create some havoc!

More than likely a hardware issue. This sounds kind of drastic, but you might want to hard reset and see if that fixes it. Are you rooted? custom ROM?

If neither apply to you, I would head over to Sprint/best buy/radio shack, show them the issue, and ask if they will let you try your media card in a demo unit to see if the same thing happens. If so then it is for certain a defective card.

I might be late to the party and this could be a long shot, but are you running a task killer in an auto-kill mode that doesn't have the music app set to ignore?

FYI, I just got the app iSyncr. It works flawlessly. It works with the existing music player but picks up whatever you sync from your iTunes with it. It took a while to pull all my music, but I made a playlist of 16GB of music which turned out to be 3500+ songs, and iSycr picked up everything. Album art and other info that comes with it.

Well worth the $2.99, and it syncs with any playlist and will auto delete that huge file if I want to pare it down to say the 2GB list I keep for my iPod Shuffle.
