Anyone's phone killing itself?

I bought mine at around 1 and have used it regularly with no slow down. I installed LauncherPro when I first got it, and it worked perfect. However, a few minutes ago, my phone just went black, aside from my topmost bar. I pressed the power button and nothing, so I took my battery out, and started it up again...and the same thing happened: black after a few seconds. It's happened 6 times in a row now. What do I do?

After messing around with mine today, I decided to power it off/on. When I booted it back on, the phone hangs on the Galaxy S boot screen, and then shuts off. Tried a different battery, removing the battery, etc...

My phone is dead. Luckily I work for AT&T and can get it replaced pretty quick, but it sucks getting a new phone and being without it. :(

Since you work with AT&T, do you know what the official policy regarding warranty repair on a rooted phone is (if there is one)? If someone phone has a hardware fault and they need a warranty replacement, but they have rooted the phone, would the claim be typically denied due to that, even if the hardware failure had nothing to do with rooting?

Rooting the phone does void the warranty, but most reps in store would not have idea what rooting is, and that the phone itself is rooted.

If you're within 30 days and have to do the instore warranty, you should be okay. After 30 days and dealing with the warranty department might be different.

I've personally never seen any claim get denied because a phone was rooted, but AT&T hasn't been carrying Android devices for very long.

Well, I do get any smartphone for free as my company use phone, so I'll get it replaced for free... It just sucks not having a cool phone for a few days. :)

Haha well you are lucky, if another one comes out you can get that and then get another and another! haha I think a few days off without a phone is worth the hundreds you will save! Any advice on getting a job at AT&T? ;)

I have dealt with the 1-year warranty department here due to my bad luck with LG Xenons developing a bubble under the touchscreen. All they did was look up the account to see I was within the right time frame, opened the phone to make sure that the liquid indicator was showing nothing, and then promptly handed me a new one within 5 minutes. When the second one started getting a bubble, that one was replaced too. The third one has been fine. I doubt they would dig around much in the internals of the OS for evidence of rooting within the few minutes they take to decide whether to honor the claim.

Wish mine was that easy of a fix... :(

I've probably powered mine on and off about 500 times today.

Same problem here. I've figured out that it only happens when i have it set to sync with my Gmail calendar. If I turn that off (settings, accounts and sync, gmail, sync calendar), the phone works fine. Duck Tales, are you currently syncing your gmail calendar?

A lot of companies have "cover their butt" things in the warranties that they don't follow through on most of the time. I suspect the rooting stipulation is similar. They have it there so that if you really mess things up big time, they can get out of it. Or if some rom causes all samsung captivates to brick they can go back on it.

The point I'm making is that usually a stipulation like that is to protect them from a MASS issue from rooting that lots of people are having. I doubt they are concerned with a few rooted phones here and there having an issue. Technically they can refuse warranty if you root...but 99% of the time, it's just not worth it for their technicians to even take the time to check.

Yea. Mine did the same things the night before last. I was waiting to me up with a buddy of mine so I was expecting a call back or a text and when 45 minutes went by my other friend said I should prob see where he was. I pick up the phone and it doesn't turn on.

Now I had been using the TV out for like an hour playing videos, but I took it off when the battery got to 18%. The phone wouldn't turn back on so I removed the battery and when I put it back in it powered on normally. I was upset though because he had been trying to get in touch with me and my phone was off.

When it came back on it showed 16% battery remaining or something so there was no reason why I should had turned off or locked up like that.

Hasn't done it again so maybe I'm safe, but that had me a little worried at first. I'm considering going back to the N1 since I got decent battery life with mine and never had issues like this.

I've experienced several problems, but I don't blame most of them on the phone itself. Could be launcher pro (which is still in beta), could be any of the free games I've installed, could be I'm not closing out of programs correctly, etc. I think a lot of the problems will be fixed with an update, but it is frustrating.

It seems like every phone has problems. There's a help section for every brand, variant and carrier. It's a "pros" vs "cons" game. So far the pros outweigh the cons (for me).

I am starting to get the feeling that once you're done trying out every program and game this side of the sun, that it may be best to write down which programs you like, do a factory reset, and then just load those up. My experience with the phone seems to exponentially degrade as I add and remove more and more apps and games.
