Droid X Petition

I haven't seen a thread for this yet, but can't we try and petition Google to force Motorola/Verizon to keep the Droid X open to developers?

Both Motorola and Verizon are part of Google's Open Handset Alliance, yet they are working to keep hardware locked to developers.

Probably not feasible in reality since only a small percentage of users even care about rooting, but it could be worth a shot if someone knows how to make one of those online petition things.

No company is going to make it easy for their phones to be hacked, it just doesn't make sense. Say they do this and we all load a ROM onto our phones and they get messed up, which of course never happened with the ROMs on my Droid, but we're looking at it from their point of view. Your user can have a broken phone, and they can't get a new one because they voided their warranty. It makes sense for a company to lock down what you can load onto their phones, at least ROM-wise.

but...isnt it already perfect?
you have my vote but i think this is silly.
the milestone had a petition thing going...
motorola specifically said this isnt a DEV phone....the phone is already out...kind of late to have them change it to a dev phone dont u think?
like i said, u have my vote but even if this phone is rooted im not rooting it. i plan on selling it and dont have time to wait for rom devs to work out the kinks while i have it listed for sale.
good luck!

This is a really good idea. Motorola is going against everything Android is about and turning into Apple. Very sad and frustrating as I really wanted to like this phone.

Developers are already jumping ship.

What if HTC and others follow suit? It would be a disaster for Android.

Motorola should be ashamed of themselves.

Post it here too:

How the Droid X is locked down? Let me tell you what I know.

Man, I'm really sick of hearing about Motorola turning into Apple. You can still load 3rd party apps, you just can't load, for now anyway, a whole new ROM onto the phone. It's not like a pc; if you install Linux on your pc and it messes up, you won't expect Dell or whoever to make it all better. If thousands of people load BB onto their X and it messes up, Motorola and VZW will be flooded with calls asking for refunds and fixes. Motorola and VZW are companies: they make money. Having the X is nothing like using an Apple product, the comparison doesn't make any sense.
