Back button lifting and getting damaged

Anyone else have their HTC Desire back button getting damaged.

The metal appears to be lifting and getting damaged. Tried to push it down so it does not catch on anything, but it does not seem to help.

Its always in a case and has no damage........on the phone to HTC support at the moment and sent them picks. Waiting on a reply at the moment.

Mine is fine, looks like the process they use to get the metal film on the button hasn't bonded the 2 together properly.
Used to work in the plastic molding industry, looks like quality control missed that one.
Probably one of the first ones of a run after the machine has been restarted after a weekend or holiday break.

I'm having the exact same problem, although not quite as bad as yours Mike. Out of curiosity, where did you get it from?

Not that it's the point but it wouldn't affect the performance of the button though would it?

Can't see how it would, it's just cosmetic.

Got the phone from CPW and its cosmetic. It won't be done under warranty but could send the phone off for 5 days to get it changed. Can't live that long without a phone just for a button.

To be honest, nothing stays perfect forever... little annoying tho.

don't give up so easily - you have been fobbed off.

It is NOT reasonable for this button to have become damaged within such a short time with , what I assume , is normal wear and tear.

HTC's attitude also disappoints me - however the contract of sale is with CPW - get back to them and firmly and quietly demand a replacement or they fix it pronto, gratis and with a loan phone while it's being done.

Hmm, interestingly i got mine from CPW too, i wonder if it's batch issue or whether we're just really unlucky?

Why won't it be done under warranty? If it was mine I'd be demanding that it was. It's a manufacturing fault.

yep would agree that CPW should take responsibilty for this, it does look terrible from those photo's and I would suspect will only get worse. Best to get it sorted now rather than later.

I have exactly the same problem, along with dust under my screen

When they both get too bad I will return it to have the screen sorted under warranty.

You never know, they may send me a replacement like our fruit based alternatives do.

how long have u had your phone? I thought that the back button was made of metals or by metal spraying. wonder that how on the earth you got the button so damaged? by placing the phone at a flat level you could see a slightly tiny bulge on the back button.

Personally, I think it is down to a design fault.

All the buttons have a sort of metal overlay (like a stencil)

It could have been solved by a thin coating over the top of this to prevent lifting.

When you first got the phone did the back button look like it does in these pics:-

Even with the damage yours looks slightly different.

Yes it did. the arrow hole has gradually got larger as more metal folds up and comes off.

I will enquire with CPW when I get a chance and see what happens.
