Anyone else have this problem? Everytime I call anyone they say I sound like a robot and they can barely understand me, its definitely the phone and wondering if this is a common issue or I just need to go replace my phone. Also being inside the 14 day return, can i just go in there and get another phone from tmobile or do i have to send it off?

I really hope this isn't an issue. The Vibrant is one beautiful piece of hardware with some really nice specs, but I need it to be a phone first. I'm on my phone thousands of minutes a month and couldn't imagine having "soup can" conversations. No flash, no FFC, big deal. If it doesn't work properly as a phone, then that's a definite deal breaker.

Agreed. I can live without those things too, but it has to make and recieve clear calls.

I'm experiencing the same problem here. I've been blaming it on reception which compared to N1 and G1 is poor (usually at least 20dB less which is a lot of signal loss). Went to T-Mo store today and they claim my old sim card could be a problem. They got me a new SIM card which seems to help some, at least with 3g. Will see if that helps. I've noticed some other weirdness such as no bars at all when clearly there is signal. This appears to be a software bug already reported on xda-developers. Anyone else having call quality issues?

I have no case on my phone, problem goes in and out, had it, then went away, then just had it again today. My gf also has a vibrant and she isnt experiencing the problems so far....i am going to the tmobile store tomorrow

I hope this is just isolated as a bad handset and that you receive a replacement that works. Please keep us informed. My Vibrant is scheduled to be delivered on Tuesday and I will certainly report back.

got another phone, same problem, it seems the microphone is very sensative to wind...for example if i make a phone call when i get into my car and the ac is on pretty high...i wonder if its just wind or if its happening while it transfers towers? I am going to ask for a new sim card as mine is pretty old, see if that does anything, worth a shot

I've made a handful of short calls on my phone & I've found that it's very difficult for me to hear. The person on the other end sounds faint & muffled. Likewise, they complain of an echo on my end.

Thanks for posting this information. I'm definitely not looking for problems here. I really want to like this phone. I'm already sacrificing UMA calling, which if you haven't had it then you might not miss it, but it's great to have my BB jump on wifi and have clear calls even in my basement.

I suppose one of things that is driving this for me is that I have a curve 8900 and I've had those echoing issues. This was resolved my turning down the volume on the phone. Worked perfectly, however if I'm outside and there's a little background noise, then I can barely hear the caller. I also worry about this being an issue. I'm not often in the wind or standing near a lot of loud traffic, but I'd like to be able to hear the caller even if I'm in a somewhat noisy area (within reason).

I've heard about the sim swap and in some cases this seems to work. If this is in fact an issue I'll make some minor tweaks to the settings and if it doesn't work, I'll be connecting my new Samsung string and soup can so that I can place a call to a t-mobile CSR and ask them if this is acceptable. Of course that's when the call will be clear without issues.

Thanks again for the posts.

I'll report back as soon as I jump on this thing (tomorrow).

Just a brief update. Received the phone late last night, so I've only been using it as a "phone" for one day. I spent about 4-5 hrs on calls today. I switched between handset, speaker phone and bluetooth.

So far, no issues, but I'd still like to give it a little more time. I was on edge in my office, so I haven't really given the 3g a good run. The only comment I heard today was that I just sounded different. Not bad, not hard to hear, but apparently noticeable that I wasn't on the BB.

One thing I already miss though is the UMA feature. T-mobile either has to support this with Android or offer the 3g microcell like AT&T. Of course it's good hearing about all of this new high speed coverage popping up.

I am also having the same issues...I have already got a new one in the first week...this one does the same thing but worse. Now I'm past the 14 days.

I had the same issue just yesterday while talking to my dad. I usually like to blame things on him and his sprint htc and bluetooth headset anyways, but after seeing this post, i'd say that it is more likely the network and not our devices. I have had similar issues but from me hearing people. They may be robust cell towers and hardware, but they are still susceptible to problems just the same. I'd say it's safe to say not the phone's issue. I had this issue for me on a Beat, Behold 2, and the Vibrant, where I heard people as robots, but when I left my current area to a different tower, all was well.

I would have to respectfully disagree - i can switch between the vibrant and another phone (in the same location) and the difference in the voice quality is obvious - the Vibrant's microphone basically sux - i'm sad to say - so much else about the phone is so awesome - i am sorely disappointed in the fact that i sound all fuzzy and distant when i call people - it is foremost a phone, isn't it? This poor voice microphone quality may be a make-or-break for me...

My husband and I both got Samsung Vibrants. They are the shizniz, or whatever the youngsters are saying now. We do not have issues with the microphones at all. They sound crystal clear.:)

Have there been any confirmed issues with the Vibrant's microphone? My husband says he cannot understand me, that I'm mumbling and/or yelling even though I am speaking in a normal voice and enunciating. It's maddening, and I love my phone, but I may have to change it. It's still within warranty, so I guess I"ll take it to the store if I can't find a fix here.
