Help Contact Photo Issue

I've attached camera pics, downloads and upload to the SD card.

The problem is that when these contacts call/I call them the quality is sometimes awful. Others look perfect.

Any idea why?

It's a known problem with Google contacts. You upload a decent quality photo to Google, then when Google syncs with your phone it sends back a tiny image that replaces the original. Wonderful.

The simplest way to avoid that is to use Phone contacts. If you are desperate to retain Google contacts, have a search of this forum. Other people have found a workaround that involves creating a duplicate for each contact. I should warn you, though, it's not pretty.

This is just on Phone Contacts mate.

Only have phone contacts on view.

You don't have to have Google contacts on view for a Google contact (or anyone else) to phone you up. I'd check to see if you actually do have any Google contacts as it's easy to create them accidentally. This could certainly account for *some* of your pics showing up as rubbish quality.

I have 10 (google and google mail). All the ones on there that have pics are fine.

It seems to be on the phone memory that has the problem

And from those photos, you selected something that was of similar dimensions? The reason I ask is that the selection process makes it very easy to pick a small part of the photo that you choose. That part is down to you. You have to manually select and size a cropping frame. If you were to choose a relatively small part of a larger picture, your'e going to end up with a low resolution contact picture.

If you believe you have done the right thing, contact HTC support. They will likely ask you to export your contact file and send it to them. This will contain definitive information about the resolution of the image that you actually have in your contact data.

Is there a tutorial on sizing the contacts photos? I have pics on my SD card that I want to make as contact icons, but I can not resize them anywhere other than a photo editor on the PC. When I long click on the picture during selection, the phone drops the pic and reverts back to the contact details screen without a picture.

When you add a new contact, click the camera icon and you will then have the option to select the contact photo. No long press required. After you have selected the photo, you will be prompted to choose the part of the picture that you want to store with the contact (usually a face) by dragging a cropping grid.

Bear in mind that the phone can't work miracles. If the original picture is low resolution, or the face is a small portion of the original image, the contact photo won't be great. See above comments about Google contacts also.

Thanks for your reply... what about the case when adding a photo to an existing contact.
>Open Contacts
>Select Contact
>Menu
>Edit Contact
>Click icon
>select photo

there is no selection for the area of the picture to use. The phone just seems to use whatever part of the picture it wants to use.

UPDATE: AHA! If I use ASTRO to select the picture there is no selection box, but using GALERY there is... sorry to be a bother.
