Hey all, I made a post a while about an HTC Droid Incredible I ordered for my son. Well, I'm back, this time with more problems.

I'll cut right to the chase this time, after ordering my son's phone I noticed that I had a $100 New Every Two discount still on my line. I looked into it and found that the discount can be transferred between lines. With this in mind, I cheerfully called Verizon customer service to ask if the NE2 Discount could be attributed to the order I place for my son's Droid about a week and a half ago. Unfortunately, the woman told me that orders placed could not be modified or canceled. I was sad that day :(

Instead, however, what she told me to do was to order the phone on my line and to refuse the other phone that I had previously ordered. She told me that the second order would only come a day or two after the first order, so it would still be in time for my son's birthday. It sounded like a fair deal, but before I do so, I have a few questions I hope you guys can answer.

1. I have heard that the new Droid Incredibles are shipping with a lower quality screen in order to facilitate the massive amount of orders. Is this true and if so, will it be a noticeable difference for my son?

2. Are there any hidden charges the woman didn't tell me about? I don't trust Verizon in the least...

3. When I ordered my son's phone, I was asked to select a texting and data plan along with insurance. When I went to re-order the phone today, I was asked to do the same thing. Are these plans attributed to the specific line or the phone? Because I already ordered unlimited data and texting for my son's number but I don't want to double up the charges by putting them on my line too.

I realize these may be more general Verizon questions, but I'm really confused right now and I'm just hoping you guys can help me out. This phone business is a damn mess . Well, thanks to everyone in advance for any help you guys can offer. I really, really appreciate it!

A buddy at work got a new one shipped to him today that had lcd screen, different appearance from my amoled. Still a good display, not quite as crisp, but hard to tell unless the phones are next to each other, imo. Make sure that the line you refuse the phone on removes the data plan, you may be able to double check online or you may have to call back and make sure b/c you can't trust the majority of the service people. Shouldn't be any hidden charges, possibly activation fee, but if they try to charge you with more keep on calling, vzw will work with you if you can find the right person. Good Luck.

Well I haven't activated the phone yet and the plan doesn't have data listed, but then again it doesn't even have data as an option. I was just assuming that the new plan didn't take effect until I activated the phone, but now I'm just really confused.

The data plan prob won't activate until the phone does. The other stuff she is saying sounds legit, I have had a lot of experience with VZW in the past. If you are concerned about the screen, check some of the threads here to see what differences are from others.

Okay so just to be clear, if I order the data plan on the newly ordered phone, and then activate it under my son's phone number, the plan will be billed to his line? And if I refuse the phone that was originally shipped to him, it'll be like I never ordered it at all?

Thank you guys for all your help, I'm sorry I'm being so obnoxious! I'm really short on cash right now but I want get my son an awesome present. You all really are the most helpful forum I've ever been on, thanks again! :)

As far as anyone is aware, HTC is NOT shipping phones with the SLCD screen yet.

In fact, we had a post earlier today where someone thought that they had the new screen because it looked different from their original. Upon further inspection and actually checking the hardware spec's, we were able to confirm that it was in fact an AMOLED screen. A defective one maybe, but it was AMOLED.

It should work that way, yes.

But no one can truly confirm this. Verizon has been known to do some strange things. For instance, my phone was billed to my account before I even received it, so it's possible that you will be billed for both.

When they receive the first phone back (after FedEx returns it) they would then need to refund the cost. So you MIGHT be out the money until all of that is worked though.

Hopefully that won't happen, but I am not going to sit here and tell you that it won't. Cause it might :(

Ah okay maybe I'll give CS another ring then. I really don't understand why they couldn't have just applied the discount to my unshipped and probably unprocessed week old order. It seems like it would be easier on both ends to be honest.

this new one my buddy had looked different with the colors, but still hardware version 002, maybe diff oled screen? and you never know what vzw will do!!

He has an AMOLED screen. And no, not a "different" one, there is no such thing.

Verizon doesn't have anything to do with it. HTC makes the phones, Samsung makes the screens.

People have experienced problems with the AMOLED screen. Most commonly is a pink hue effect. Some are also reporting a slightly green tint to it. But they are the same ol AMOLED screen that everyone else has on their phone, it's just a little defective ;)

It would be easier but their system is simply not designed that way. Once the order is placed and confirmed it is "completed" in their system and no changes can be made.

I know it sucks to have to go through that process but it's just how it has to be. At least until the software tech's that make Verizon's ordering system updates their software. Which ain't gonna happen anytime soon :)

Honestly I would just be happy that they are letting you order a second one with the discount and return the first. I have heard of them making you wait for the first to arrive, then process a return for it, and then order a new one. Which is an even bigger PITA.

I have never heard of that with any business other than Verizon, what a load of...

I made it crystal clear to them that I would not wait another month for his birthday present. I don't see why they would reject it though, I mean I'm essentially just ordering two of the same phone with a plan to return one when it gets here.

Never heard of what? Their system software or then making people return the phone before they order another?

In regards to the system software, that is actually VERY common. Once an order is processed in their system and out for order you can't make changes to it. Been that way with everything I have ever dealt with.

For the other issue, that is for people who only have one line on their account. You are lucky in the sense that you have two lines so you can essentially "upgrade" the other line and have two orders being processed at the same time. Each line is actually it's own seperate account, they are just linked together for billing purposes.

For instance, I added my line to my fiance's account. We are now on the same bill, but my contract time and upgrade time is completely different from my fiance's.

I meant not being able to cancel an order before it is shipped. Seems sort of archaic.

The problem is that it is not technically Verizon that is sending you the phone. When you place your order, they receive and process it. Then it is sent to HTC (who actually makes the phones) for fulfillment. Once that is done, Verizon can't do anything with the order.

This is true with all cell phone companies (all companies period really, at least ones that are just distribution retailers like Verizon).

The reason that it doesn't seem common is that it is actually pretty rare for cell phones to end up backordered like we are seeing with the DINC. Before this, the only one it has ever happened with is the iPhone. And that was due to Apple's controled production to maintain supply/demand.

It's always been this way, but it's never mattered because phones were ordered/processed/shipped all within a day or two.

I know it's extremely frustrating but it IS normal.

And yes, I personally think it's nice of Verizon to allow you to use your upgrade discount from one line to add a phone to another line. They don't HAVE to do this, they could make you stick to each lines upgrade time (thus charging you more for an early upgrade).

Ah I see, that makes sense actually. I've never really dealt with phone retailers before so I wouldn't know. It does seem nice, but how would they prevent me? From what I understand you can activate any phone purchased from anywhere on any line. So even if I didn't inform them that I was going to activate my discounted phone on my son's number, they still wouldn't really be able to do anything.

Glad I could help make sense of it all :)

It would not be hard for them to prevent you from doing it actually. All they would have to do is only allow you to activate the phone on the line which you used to purchase the upgrade. It would be a very simple fix in there system to prevent it.

The reason they don't is because A: They are nice, B: other cell phones companies allow it so they need to stay competative and C: it would be a pain to make sure their CSR's bypassed this option in cases where it's actually necessary (such as having a temp phone until your replacement comes).
