Help GW620 touch screen out of calibration?

Good day,

I have my Eve for a few months and in the last week I have been having trouble with the touch screen being out of calibration. When held vertically (slide keyboard hidden) the left half of the screen is unresponsive to touch, and if I press the right hand side of the screen it will activate a button on the left side of the screen.

There were some suggestions on other phone forums to help fix this, but I wanted to see if anyone else with an Eve here has run into this.

So far I have removed all my 3rd party software.
Sometimes it is fine, and sometimes it isn't.
I have also pulled the battery to see if resetting the phone would help, but it hasn't seemed to help.

I would really like a utility to recalibrate the touchscreen, but I have not found one. Is there anyway to do this within the phone?

Thanks!

I have been playing around with the phone trying to find out what is going on and I may have some ideas.

It may be related to heat. When I started having troubles I was carrying the phone in my front pocket. Once I started carrying the phone in my belt mounted case I no longer had issues with the touchscreen.

Let me know how you make out.

thanks!

Just found this in the hidden menu!

Calibration tool for LG Eve:

At the "Dialer" enter: 3845#*620#
(This accesses the hidden menu)

Choose "Device test"
Choose "Touch test"
Choose "Calibration"

I still had trouble running the calibration as half of my screen at the time would not respond.
Try it out and let us know your results (good or bad)!

Thanks!

its a heat related issue, but I'm not entirely sure why since the touch screen doesn't repsond to heat, but to pressure.

however, i first noticed the problem one day at the beach. it was about 30 C outside and after using it for a couple of minutes, the screen was completely unresponsive. i put it under a blanket for a few minutes and it worked again for a couple of minutes but then stopped again.
since then i've noticed anytime i go for a drive and leave the phone on the seat in the sun the same problem will happen. it will be fine again once i go inside.

i've told my provider about this problem, they've granted me an exception to receive a different phone. this is a defect in the GW620's

Thanks for the post. This settles a great deal of speculation.
What new phone did you settle on?
Who is your carrier?

Thanks!

Hi Raymond, I am having the exact same problem as yours. It is an erratical behaviour and I am getting mad trying to solve this. I have had several visits to the phone company and every visit I leave like if I was so stupid touching the screen in the wrong way or with fatty fingers that I end up feeling I can not handle this new tech easely. I am really frusttrated and I even wrote to the LG guys and have had no answer yet. Have you found something? anything that could help us? anybody? (I am getting to the throw-that-piece-of-junk-away zone and get a new brand)

Thanks Murdock909.

I don't know what module.apk does exactly but after re calibrating with it I had some more precision. I used that new precision to do another hidden menu calibration and I'm pretty close to 100% touch accuracy.

Thanks again.

ps:
a rom with a better calibrating tool might be in order since the standard one relies on the screen already having a relatively high degree of touch accuracy.
A different calibration tool design that prompts the user to touch the screen and shows where the touch was detected and then allows a crosshair cursor or the like to be moved by the user to the sensed area using large (high tolerance for touch offness or less degree of touch accuracy) buttons or using a set of slideout/hard keyboard keys, if the phone is equipped with such, might help.

pps:
the standard touch calibration tool is definitely worthy of a "what were they thinking" or even "what the * were they thinking" (if such a site exists). :)
