Hello all, this is in concern to the build quality of my desire, or, lack of, rather.
I am contemplating taking it back for a replacement as I am still within the 28 days or whatever it is. The physical flaws themselves however, are not the most drastically severe nor do they affect use in any way, so the title is a little over exaggerated.
1. The first flaw/defect is with the fitting of the back case, and I would have to say its the most annoying out of all the problems. When I hold the phone one handed as I like to do, it is with my right hand, so my hand wraps around toward the left hand side of the phone when you are facing the screen upright, my finger tips (just on the part that is very sensitive), sit directly on the separation between the phone and the back case. Most of the edges protrude more extensively than normal, however this one is directly where my fingers tips sit, on the area to the top of the volume rocker. It is most certainly an obvious protrusion, and easily noticeable both visually and with with fingers when using with the right hand. It is actually unavoidable and a little annoying.
2. Equally noticeable during use, but rather more aesthetically than physically impairing use, the optical track ball sits rather of-centre in its housing cavity. Because of this, not only does the trackball look bad of-center but the gap between the casing to one side is so large, that the backlight for the buttons easily seeps out trough the large opening, and not only that but one can easily see trough the gap into the inside of the case even when one shifts they're viewing angle from side to side. Non of this hinders functionality in any way however, it does take from the over all experience and also takes the quality feel to it giving it more of a cheap and "dodgy"feel.
3. And third of course, I have found a spec of dust under the screen, its only one single spec sitting right in the corner of the bottom right hand side, but hard to miss once you know its there.
As I said I've been thinking of taking the phone back to the shop for a replacement but then I realized that there are a few other factors that I had to consider when making the decision. First, my phone is fine, other than the aesthetic flaws it has no problems, but I am worried that if I change for a replacement, there is a chance that the one I will get as replacement will be a dud device. Also in case something like this happens, they might not replace it for a second time, leaving me with a larger faults than I had previously.
Will the shop certainly replace my device? since as I said, I am still within my 28 days are they not obliged to give me a replacement? I would like to think that if I am paying $700 for a phone I can at least expect to get a little quality with it.
Any help greatly appreciated.
