Folks, I'm hoping you people can help me out before I throw my Hero in the bin :-(

I love (well, at the moment loved) my Hero and it ticks all the boxes for me, but since I updated to the generic 2.1 ROM my battery dies within 12 hours (at most) and I'm at my wits' end.

Can someone, anyone give me a definatlive guide of how to make my phone stay active for at least 24 hrs?

Cheers,

Chegs.

Hi Chegs,

That's frustrating! I've had mine on 2.1 for over 24hrs and it's been pretty much the same as before with battery life.

Use the new battery indicator in 2.1 to check what's been using the battery most:
Settings
About Phone
Battery
Battery use

That would be the first place I'd look. I'd also use something like Advanced Task Manager to look at what is running and may be using thebattery.

Have you checked your email and network settings to make sure nothing is using a persistent connection? These settings were all reset after my upgrade and emails default to checking every 15 minutes - which will cane the battery.

If nothing jumps out at you as being the culprit, it could be a fault on your battery, but it does seem a bit too coincidental.

Sorry, that's probably all a bit obvious, but it's what I'd do anyway.

All the best,
Jim

I have also upgraded my hero to 2.1, and have a crappy battery life. Its hard to say if the upgrade caused the battery problem, as I was still trying to figure out how to optimize the battery at the time. (Around July 4th I upgraded)

On a good day my battery will last 12 hours, on a bad day 8 hours. Mind you this is through normal use.. Texting a few times an hour, facebook once in awhile.

Settings:
-GPS OFF
-WiFi OFF
-Background Data OFF
-App Killer Installed but not really needed if all I'm doing is texting
-Syncing isn't an issue if Background Data is OFF, but nonetheless I have the syncing to a minimum.

Now when I check my battery use it says my Camera is using 95% of my battery. The funny thing is I don't really use the camera..

If someone could give me any info regarding the Camera using the battery and why I'm getting 8-12 hours of battery life I would be grateful. And also is 2.2 ready for the Hero yet?

I appreciate the help.

Do you have added the calender widget? Remove it and the Battery will go back to normal... had the same problem after adding the calender widget...
Which one is causing the problem? I have two calendar widgets listed - one from HTC, the other from Android. I've been using the HTC calendar widget since Feb when I got the phone and never had any major issues with battery life, certainly not like you guys describe. I've never used the Android one though.
