Kik Messenger - Cross-Platform Messaging

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for people to take part in the public beta of Kik Messenger. Kik is a free smartphone to smartphone messenger, similar to BBM but cross-platform. There are BlackBerry and iPhone versions already released so I'm excited to say that now with the Android version - Kik is the first true cross-platform messenger. Kik is available in the US and Canada only.

You can find it in the Android Market or point your mobile browser to http://www.kik.com/m/kik.apk to download.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this forum so any questions or suggestions can be directed to me! Or check us out here:

I downloaded it from the Android Market a few weeks ago...

EDIT: It is still listed for me, though it might be because I already have it downloaded. It does, however still display the description and information and everything, so I would think it would still be there. i just did a search for "kik."

Not too sure why it's not in the Android Market - I'm looking into that right now.

In the meantime you can grab it from Kik | Text Anyone for Free - just point your mobile browser there and download.

I hope this helps :)

That link redirects to the market search (which isn't found) if you have mobile view enabled in your browser.

Eventually got to it disabling mobile view :D

Just re-read the description. US and Canada only. For an app like this that limitation is an interesting decision..

I was going to give this app a try until I saw the facebook page.

It looks like in less than a month their website was down, they had crashing issues on the iphone, they had SMS credit issues and they had new registration issues. Way too many problems for my liking. Any communication app (to send messages, SMS, phone calls or email) HAS to be reliable and from what I can see, it's likely not.

I'll bookmark the page and check again in six months to see if things have changed.

I really like this app coming from a Blackberry. I now have an HTC EVO. I have a few quirks I would like to talk about. First is the contact name. The only way to see the name is if they change it on there phone. This is fine but I wish I had the option to put their name in myself. Which brings me to my next point. I can only see the names of my friends on Blackberry's or Android devices, NOT iPhone. I have 2 Android friends and 4 Blackberry friends. No problem with them. My iPhone buddy says he is trying everything to change it in the settings but nothing helps. I tried to I delete him and add him again, but there is no way to delete anyone. Also, If I try to add a contact to invite them, all I see are numbers too. I realize it's in beta so i'll be patient. Other than that it's great. Wish I could add contact pictures in the future. Maybe a widget too. Pop up notification would be great. Thanks.
