Battery Drain Issues

I have the Captivate 2 nights and both times by morning it has been dead after a full charge around midnight. I may not have but I thought I ran task killer before i fell asleep and the phone was not bothered after that. Any ideas? I know better as this is too vague a question. However, as much as I love the phone, the confusion on trying to load other android apps, the battery drain, frustration on deleting at&t apps, is making me think I am going to return the phone for the iPhone I just love this screen and the video capabilities though. I love the photo takiing and uploading to facebook. This phone is so crippled and I'm a virgin android user, but some of it seems so unnecessary. Shame on AT&T and

Honestly, Android isn't for everyone. For some people Apple just does it for them. While I don't like Apple, I do have to admit that it IS simple. But I also think you should give Android more of a chance.

Exit all apps/web browsing using BACK and not HOME. Home causes it to run in the background, back closes it. I'm not sure what you mean about loading other Android apps. Do you mean sideloading? Don't worry about it until you actually need it, and you'll know when. Just use the market. It is simple enough. You can not delete the ATT apps until you have root. Root is, in simple terms, jail-breaking. Then you can do everything you need to. If you need help specifically on this, just pm me and I'd be more than willing to help point you in the right direction.

And yes. ATT cripples their Androids. But thankfully the Captivate has root, so it's just a matter of tweaks to get it up and running even better than a non gimped phone.

The Captivate is not even that crippled I think. Sideloading was only a problem for the 20 seconds it took to root it using the hardware buttons. I did notice a power drain last night when it went from 100% to 85% when I woke up. :|

I would take your phone back for a replacement. My battery lasts more than 24 hours, with mild surfing and game playing.

I noticed that power drained a bit overnight as well. I am going to run JuicePlotter to see what was eating up the battery and then run JuiceDefender to rectify the situation.

I am new to android too, but at this point in the lifecycle the phone is no more crippled than most others except the Google Nexus 1. We already know how to root, get rid of the AT&T installed apps, and lift restrictions on the non market apps. Other than the current unavailability of a custon rom of stock Froyo and a method for carrier unlocking, there are not many additional restriction imposed. This is a far more hackable device than the other phones with locked down boot roms.

I apologize I'm not trying to be critical. I'm just having a tough time getting things to work. I think its my newness to android nd frustration with everything feeling foreign. I tried to root today, simple instructions and I screwed it up. However the phone itself is amazing and the software on the phone is great. I just have to keep on the learning curve.

There is a bit of a learning curve. I'm a techno wienie, so I learn fast.

Here's what I suggest for anyone having issues with the learning curve:

Get comfortable with the basic functions, then worry about rooting and
sideloading, etc. I think once you've gotten the basics down, your frustration levels will drop. Rooting will still be here 2 weeks from now and it'll probably be more useful as the community adopts this device and
starts setting up ROMs, etc. for it.

It's been just over 24 hours since my last charge, and it was still charging when I unplugged it, although the battery meter read FULL. I don't have an after market battery meter and I don't have exact percentages, but the meter is drained only %25. I have bluetooth, wifi, gps, and 3G enabled. Only light use, but I did watch a video, surf and play a couple games, a few emails, a few short calls etc.

It just doesn't make sense that you could go to bed with a full charge and waked up the next morning with a dead battery. I would take the phone back for a replacement.

There is an issue with GMAIL... shut off the gmail sync in the settings and see if that fixes the battery issue.

Don't forget that the GPS doesn't work. lol

Seriously most the issues are liveable, but the Aria is actually a great phone so I would say keep it if you're happy with it. The grass always seems greener on the other side.
