Owning a Mac is a lot like dating a narcissistic model

Having an Apple product is a lot like dating a narcissistic super model. She's hot and beautiful and everyone envies you, but when things go bad you have to shell out a lot of $$$$ to fix things. Not to mention that you have to play by her rules (locked) and treat her like a baby because she's delicate (scatches and broken screens).

If they do something wrong they usually deny it

or throw a tantrum as a defense mechanism. Just like Steve Jobs did when people discovered that the iPhone 4 has reception issues. He went ahead and pointed the finger at everyone else.

Do I want one? No. I like the Android platform. Most of the apps iPhone users pay for I get for free. Not to mention as a perk, I don't have to pay for AT&T's crappy service.

Apple spends a lot of money trying to distinguish its "superior" products from everyone elses. When you present your products to be superior than others you can't compare it to others when things go wrong.

What are you telling your customers is that as long as it works it is a better product, but really it's just like any other product when things go bad. In other words, your product is just like any other product.

So once you come to that realization you can hopefully rationalize that you are overpaying for the name Apple and/or "i" something. You even overpay for the insurance, which is $14 a month for the iPhone and $7 for other smartphones.

Apple had its superiority in processing back in the day. It was an amazing system to render graphics and edit multimedia. However, as time and technology has evolved Apple's only "advantage" (subject to debate) has been it's operating system and the lack of viruses written for it.

For those who think a Mac is unhackable do your research.

For those who think the hardware is better, think again. The hardware for Apple products is made by different Chinese PC manufactures; Foxconn, Asus, and others.

One should ask though: How come people are killing themselves at these Apple manufacturing plants?
But that is neither here or there. Though Jobs (the control freak he is) could do something about improving working conditions and employee moral.

I don't get it are you bellyaching about the Iphone 4 or about apple products in general?

Even though the Iphone 4 is not the most advanced smartphone on the market, and even though it has antenna problems, It is still a VERY good smartphone. In some ways it remains better than most android phones, while in others not so much. It's a piece of hardware. learn about it and decide whether it is for you and move on.

As for apple products, I'm an Android user and linux lover, and I still own several apple products. They do make very well designed products and very stable and beautiful computers (both from a hardware and software POV). The products might not be for everyone, but that doesn't mean that they are bad.

Of course, I don't think that I have a personal relationship with the CEO of a multinational corporation or write him little complaint notes for free swag.

I fail to see your point. You don't like Apple products, so there's something really simple you can do when you feel this way.

Don't buy their products. It's super easy after all, just don't walk into the glass cube and give the people in the silly shirts your money.

That's just the first step. The next step is to convince iphone developers to come up with android versions.

Some of you fail to see the point?
I thought it was pretty clear in how Apple has a very condescending attitude about the way they treat their customers. And asides from dealing with the issue and taking responsibility Jobs says, " well we looked at youtube and other phone have the same problem."
So his excuse is to point the finger at other devices. I thought that was clear.

You sure do know a lot about Apple for hating them so much. You also seem to like to talk about them. So to further your analogy: you have a hard-on for this super model named Apple, but not enough money to get in her pants, so all you do is whine about what a bitch she is.

Don't worry, I'm sure one day you'll be able to afford something better than your $199 netbook.

A lot already have. When I was looking into Android I found a lot of iPhone apps I used on a daily basis on my iPod Touch had Android versions.

yes but we have to keep on looking for more apps and not just for the typical applications. For example, on the iphone there is a baseball scorekeeper app called iscore that a referee or a fan can use during a game. On this thread they have a poll to see how many are interested in an android version:

Apple isn't just about being able to afford to buy into the brand (well, to many it is).

I love Apple products and have given Apple many thousands of pounds over the years. However, I can't defend the indefensible. Why would I? I want Apple to know I'm upset and for them to get it right next time - my feedback can help that, rather than bite my lip and let Apple do what the hell it wants. What sort of fanboy defends Apple and regurgitates the drivel from Steve Jobs over this fiasco? Not a proper Apple fan, that's for sure.

I don't want a MacBook with a faulty battery, an iMac with a yellow tinted screen or anything else - and if it happens, I want Apple to 'fess up and fix it and make good. Up until now, they usually do (more or less) but now it seems to be that they come back and say 'well, it's just you moaning - everyone else is happy'. It's amazing that Apple has customers who would rather have something with some flaws than not have it.

Other businesses would kill for brand loyalty like that!

I do think it's arrogant to think that someone who doesn't want an Apple product simply can't afford one, as I wouldn't buy an iPhone 4 knowing about this problem (and other problems that have been forgotten about - like the proximity sensor for one). However, I'm not going to burn my 27-inch iMac or throw out my MBP. Why would I? This isn't about hating Apple per se, but being angry with the way they're being so incredibly arrogant and using spin - right down to implying that all mobiles suck and it's more down to the network you're on...

I have a latest model iMac and and two year old macbook pro. Both are the best computers I have ever owned and my experience with personal computers goes back to the first IBM PC I bought in about 1984. I've always owned top of the line desktops and laptops.

I simply got weary of Windoze and Microsoft, blue screens of death, and suchlike.

I bought the additional service plans for my macs. I had a minor glitch with my iMac, took it back to the local store, and, without any hassle, was told by the manager that he would replace the machine, and if I came back after lunch, everything on the machine I brought in would be transferred to the new machine.

About a half dozen times, I've called Apple Care. I've always been connected to someone who speaks perfect English and was able to resolve whatever difficulty I was having.

I like Apple products. I would have bought an iPhone years ago if it were not for AT&T, whose coverage in my area stinks.

Wow, you and me are the same ;) I have a two month old 27-inch iMac i5 and a 2008 MacBook Pro (15-inch). I love both!

I also have a range of older machines that I don't use but still own, and sort of want to keep for nostalgia even though I'll probably never use them again.

I do, for my job, have to use other machines and OSes though - but this is a good thing as you can see the strengths and weaknesses of everything, and have a fairer and more balanced outlook than a 'My PC is better than your Mac' style argument.

I merely want Apple to fix the iPhone problems and stop this crazy 'we're doing this for your own good' stuff to restrict what we can or can't do. While I'll use a Mac out of choice, I've long since moved to Android as an OS of choice for my mobile phone(s) - even though I have both an iPhone 3G and 3GS.

Sounds to me like you need to stand up for yourself in your relationships. :p

I wasn't being serious - just a ridiculous reply to a ridiculous first post. I don't care too much about the iPhone, since I've never owned one and won't own one until it's available outside of AT&T. I do care about Apple's computers, which to anyone who uses one knows how much better they are all-around compared to PCs. But I don't care to convert PC users or flame them, since I know you can't change a PC user's mind. They need to find out for themselves (I know because I was one of these people - didn't appreciate Apple until I was force to use a Mac).

I make a significant amount of money that's well above the regular income level in the state I live in.
It's really not about the "not being able to afford." factor.

It's about paying for a product and the company accepting responsibility for the product's fault(s)/shortcomings rather than pointing the finger at their competition and telling the customer, "Go buy a bumper."

I use Macs in my profession, own an iPod, and have an IBM Lenovo for personal use.

I've never had a real problem with my IBM products. Still have an X41 as my remote music server.
