G.O.T.'s Blog
And I flashed my telus milestone with their Telus firmware I also ran their Open recovery and did a nandroid backup, also I installed their theme. I've only had it running for a few hours but seems stable. Seems snappy and can over clock to different speeds. It definitely feels different but to be honest I've been messing around so much with my phone that I think I will do a full wipe and reinstall tomorrow so I can give a better review on it. Also hopefully can get apps2sd working (option in their open recovery).
G.O.T. Is a group of ten developers who are developing only for the milestone this is a great start and I certainly appreciate the effort that they have put into this. I'll make sure to report back on this but would love to hear what others think.

I also have a Telus Milestone and flashed it with the GOT Thai release. I'd be interested to hear what kind of performance you get out of the GOT Telus update. I found personally that going from the Thai standard 2.1 (when it was first available) to the official Telus spf slowed me down, so I was more than happy to jump back to the GOT Thai when it became available.

Well i ran with that for about a day then decided to try another nandroid backup that i found that is a telus lightweight backup. Wow this runs fast, also has all the motorola crap taken out of it and over clocks to 1100 MHz.
It can be found here Fast & Light Telus nandroid backup - xda-developers
For me this is the best solution that i can find right now, although if anyone can suggest any other "roms" right now i would appreciate it.
Of course right now i have only tested these two so I certainly am not an expert but at least there seems to be some progress, of course if kexec can actually work i imagine the scene will explode really quickly.

TelusMilestone - was posted above by scoobydumb.

At first I read his intro... a build that's light, efficient, fast - these are all things that appeal to me, then I checked the screens... and it looked hella sexy, so I had to have it. :>

it's uber tweaked.. OC'd already. I've noticed my battery getting eaten abit on heavy data transfers, but I can feel the diff in the phone performance forsure. Now if apps2sd was just a litle more stable, I'd have the free RAM to make my milestone puurrrr.

I installed a terminal and removed the core music file (although i think the one the xda dves included was slightly tweaked) and installed a custom music.apk i had been eyeing for some time. will post screens if you want.

I'm not sure how to install this, I've only used sbf files.

TM - no worries, it's really easy. I was the same before I loaded it, and I learned the hard way how to root. :)

Download these files:
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites! (updated telus .sbf with vulnerable-recovery pre-loaded so you can root)

Flash this file with RSD lite and reboot.

http://00a5650.netsolhost.com/b/TelusStoneLiteV2.7z (new version of the TelusStoneLite which apparently has some fixes - updated today)

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites! (G.O.T's latest custom loader/rooter/overclocker/nandroid backup package)

-When you've downloaded the second file, rename it update.zip and copy it to the ROOT folder of your SD card.
-Extract the TelusStoneLite file, and put it in the following directory from your root sd: /Openrecovery/nandroid/
(so the directory structure will look like this: "/openrecovery/nandroid/TelusStonelite" and all your .img files are inside the telus directory)

Now that your files are in the right place, you can root, nandroid backup and flash the new ROM. ** I suggest backing up your contacts to a .vcf file on the sdcard through the contacts "options" menu (contacts are one of the main things you don't want to lose - everything else on the phone is either saved on the SD card or easily replaceable - like apps).

-Once done, power off the phone.
-Power up holding the Camera button and power - when you see the screen light and M logo, you can let go of the Power key but KEEP HOLDING the camera button until you see the "!" exclamation mark appear on your screen (you've almost rooted). You can now let go of the camera button.
-Press volume up and Camera buttons; root screen should now appear. WIth the D-pad, navigate down to "apply update.zip", and hit enter. The G.O.T. openrecovery loader should now run.. it will take 5 seconds to load.

Navigate into the Nandroid menu, and CREATE a nandroid backup at this stage (just in case - trust me, I didn't do this and almost bricked my phone. I nearly shit myself).

Once you've created a nandroid backup, RESTORE a nandroid backup, and select TelusStoneLite from the menu. (If you don't see it, it's because the folder is in the wrong place - skip to troubleshooting below)

The nandroid restore should load it, once loaded, select "reboot now" from the menu (nandroid or GOT main menu).

Be patient during the initial boot - this takes a while. I think mine sat on M logo for a good two minutes. Enjoy the new boot animation and super fast UI!! Reload all your apps, import your contacts, and have fun. :) Oh, and be sure to check for updates... FYI there were two new updates since i last checked - I found out trying to find you the links to download!! (you have the most recent ones in this post).

Troubleshooting: If you couldn't load the TelusStone file in the nandroid menu, the directory was in the wrong place. When you create your own nandroid backup, take note of the file name, then navigate to find the directory on your SD card. Make sure the TelusStone directory is next to your backup directory - this will ensure you can see/load it in nandroid backup.

**The TelusStone update comes ALREADY OVERCLOCKED to 1000mhz... the voltage and clock speeds are pretty safe - if you read the dev's notes, he says he doesn't push his phone too hard b/c he relies on it for work. (I trust these words, and my phone runs fine). On heavy data usage, the phone runs a little hot, and battery seems to get sapped slightly faster than normal, but the extra speed is nice. There are notes on his page for reducing the clock speed if you're uncomfortable with 1000mhz, but it requires editing the core files of the .img (good luck with that, lol).
**DO NOT use the G.O.T overclock function in openrecovery. This is how I thought I bricked my phone - I applied a few of their tweaks, and got perpetually stuck on the M logo on boot (made a few threads about it here). I tried to reset the settings, reflash a new .sbf, multiple battery pulls - nothing worked. After I reset the settings a second time, I was able to boot thankfully.

Haven't confirmed this with any of the other 'tweaks' they include, though.

Hope this helps - i wouldn't have minded seeing a guide like this when I wanted to install, so I figured I'd pay it forward and contribute. =)

"When you've downloaded the second file, rename it update.zip and copy it to the ROOT folder of your SD card."

Which one is the second file? Just being sure.

The one he has listed as (G.O.T's latest custom loader/rooter/overclocker/nandroid backup package).
This is the one that will run when you select run update.zip from recovery, thus booting it from there into the GOT Open recovery.

Also, i've never flashed before. So should i just copy the stickied 2.1 root thread exactly but just use these files instead?

I might just have one more question after this one lol thanks alot

Yes, the steps to flash are the same. If using the GOT sbf file, you can skip the 2nd flash with the vulnerable recovery.
Then when using the GOT Open recovery you would choose the root option from the menu (or you can use the update zip with just root, which is in the rooting thread)

Alright so i did it and everything is working, like the new look of my phone!
Thanks a lot!

EDIT: I went into the mod section of G.O.T. and pretty much did everything. Phone would keep restarting when i booted it so i went and got rid of the mem hack and stuff and phone works fine again.
What do you think is the problem?

Pancakes, the problem with changing more than one setting at a time is you can't effectively troubleshoot - when you modify things one at a time, you can quickly figure out what's causing the issue.

I recently tried just the Memhack by itself, and it works perfectly fine - actually freed up around a good 50megs of RAM on the phone... highly advised.

Glad you like the build - tell XDA devs that ;)
