Do you just copy and paste that post mate!!! :D:D

How many threads does there have to be regarding people thinking about rooting? Its like the top 5 threads are of people asking whether they should or not, the guide Kboya has gone to the trouble of making is top notch and if you follow it to the letter, they you will be the proud owner of a rooted tooted HTC desire with a speedy froyo ROM!

Nobody can make your minds up, if you want to do it, then do it. :)

sorry terry_gardener i wasn't having a pop at you personally mate

i used a componation of the above guide and another guide on these forums to get it rooted and rom installed since i use ubuntu and therefore some part of above guide didn't apply to me.
you are always going to get people asking questions when there is risk involved.

i had questions because i read about 6 different guides and only couple even mentioned the radio, the others guides didn't have it included at all, which seemed to confuse the matter.

it was easy enough the hardest part is doing amendments on the phone the way i like it since mybackup didn't backup some settings and contact links etc.

Yeah some guides are written with a particular ROM in mind. sometimes these ROMs have a radio built in

well i am glad you are now sorted terry_gardener, how are you liking it? im very impressed with 2.2, for such a small jump in numbers it sure as hell packs a punch, 720p (albeit a tad laggy) up to 5 X as fast as 2.1, apps to SD, new stock sms app, im well pleased. I have a question actually to anyone that knows the answer, when the official 2.2 is released OTA will we as rooted devices also get that (before our network providers tamper with it) as a normal sim free phone would? and if we decide to upgrade will that in fact un_root us? and will it then be possible to root again but keep the official ROM?

I know, that was more than one question!!

Looking at this way to unroot it looks like it will only unroot you if you have a gold card seeing as you are like me an ex branded phone user.
Yes we can get the untampered one too

well what do i think of it.

not tried alot of it but had a look around.
pros
slightly faster,
updated friendstream
flash 10.1
720p video capture (not tried it but option is now there)

cons
setting profiles not working by location properly have to manually activate profile.
seems that i am no longer able to get hsdpa mobile connection anymore just 3g.
seem to get sound interference through headphones when listening to music.

once the all the bugs are worked out thing will be good.

used rom
[ROM-FroYo] Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM (16/07 v1.0c | OpenDesire Team)
wanted to try the 20/Jul r5 WIP refresh - MoDaCo Custom ROM for HTC Desire with Online Kitchen - Froyo with Sense (FRF91)

but in the download section it says that it is available in the online kitchen and the next post says that you can access the online kitchen unless a premium member.

To change rom you just download the one you want & copy it to your memory card.
Turn off your phone then turn back on holding the volume down button
Then select recovery & you are back in the clockwork recovery mod.
Select nandroid back up
once that is done you can select wipe if advised by your rom download page
then select install from sd card & select your rom.
It will all come to you once you are in the root menu

I have seen that wake with trackpad mod somewhere, can't remember where at the moment

and if i install one that sim locks me, am i still able to re install my previous rom and radio that i had before? its just that some roms you see they say that it might sim lock Orange users.....? so if the worst came to the worst would i be cool to revert back?

Thats always a risk, problem is i think you will find once it simlocks you have to take the unlocking route that i took.
Big plus point though once you are unlocked you never have to worry again.
