HTC Incredible at Fry's for 29.99 for new VZ customer's only...

I was at the Fry's in City of Industry in So. Cal this past Monday (July 19th) picking up a 16gb Micro SDHC card when I walked over to the phones to have a look at what they had:eek:...I even took a pic with my DInc for proof.

Bearly just stop already. PLEASE! Everyone just over thinks every little thing. Just take it for what it's worth. The guy saw something he thought worthy to post so he did. Done end of story, don't start building your story from his, please. We really don't need yet another thread about the end of days for the Incredible. ;)

End of Days? I thought it was just going to be discontinued, not bring about world destruction. :D

Damn! I got my hopes up and drove to the Chicago area Fry's, only to find that the prices are quite a bit different.

They wanted $129 for new customers (primary line), and $329 for upgrade customers! Not only that, but they were requiring a $39.99 data plan. My guess is they wanted you to sign up for the $10/mo txt plan as well as the data plan.

So back to waiting for my internet order...

This is called a "loss leader." It's an old tactic that involves losing money on one thing in order to make more on something else. (new customers.)
Well I mean VZW does the same thing which is why phones are subsidized (they make $ on the monthly phone bill), but this is taking it to a whole new level.

Sorry to cause such an uproar about the pricing of our beloved phone. I was just posting it up for the benefit of people that are on the fence about getting this phone or not. I know I got a screaming deal when I purchased mine. I renewed my contract for 2 years, ordered mine online, blah-blah-blah, and final pricing for me was 99.99 (paid Ca. sales tax on 529.xx of course).

For all we know, this was a one day deal, but most likely just for the week (Sunday to Saturday) to get more foot traffic. Fry's can afford to really do blowouts like this.

Yep!

Selling at below cost (losing money) to stimulate other profitable sales and increase marketing.

Look - now thousands of people who read this thread will know what Fry's is and may visit it for the next electronic purchase.

Proof is in the pudding.
