Adding Hotspot=New Contract=Lose "UNLIMITED?"

I am looking at adding the Wireless Hotspot feature to my Incredible whenever I get the ability, presumably in the near future (not a rooter). I just locked down to an "unlimited" data plan on Incredible release day for two years.

The rumored timing of Incredible updates and tiered data is a little nerve racking and my question is this. If I wait to add the Hotspot until after the software upgrade and unlimited data is no longer an option, will I be changing my contract, and in effect stuck moving to a possible capped plan to add this feature?

Yes, I realize there are a lot of assumptions, but I'm assuming the worst here as fine print loves to stick it to consumers.

You would THINK Verizon would just let me tack it on at anytime with no penalty as I'd be adding to the $140 they get from me every month already.

Any Verizon reps that can weigh in on what they think would happen?

I added the leaked OTA with Hot-Spot and called them to see if they charge for it and the CSR said no it is a free feature. When I went to turn it on for the first time it didn't even give me a TOS so they technically can't charge me because I never agreed to a new service. Hope this helps but I can't say what will happen once they release this officially.

Adding a feature does not extend or alter your contract.

Adding a feature does not extend or alter your contract.

This is true. In the past, I added the VCAST V PACK with no contract changes. I've also added unlimited text messaging for all of the phones on my family plan with no contract changes. I've switched to phones that I bought from a former VZW customer with no contract changes.

The only time my contract has changed was when I activated a new every two upgrade or switched plans. My contract only changed from term to term when Verizon completely changed something (like when they switched from being Bell Atlantic Mobile and dropped their local plans in favor of regional plans. It changed again when they went from analog to digital and I actually had to get a new phone but at least that part was free.) Even when they phased out the V PACK, I still had that contract when it came up this Febuary. If I had switched to another feature phone with my NE2, I would have had to get rid of the V PACK and pick one of the data plans.)

So if you like your phone and your contract, hold onto them as long as you can. The plus side is if they change the contracts so that it is actually cheaper, you can switch them and it doesn't affect your NE2, it just affects your contract length. (Well, at least that is how it was.)
