Data Usage On Droid

Well I have had my droid for just at 1 week now.. I don't tether it, just normal surfing on it, Pandora, and download all the fun apps, and I just checked out my data usage on my account and I am now at just past 1.1 gb of data usage for my billing cycle which is also just into its 1st week. WOW!!!!

When it comes to using Pandora, I use it maybe 10-20 minutes a day so not that much. I just see that this has greatly surpassed my usage on a PDA phone ever where with my curve I was at somewhere around 100 mb a month, my windows mobile phones in the 100 to 200 range a month, now this I am over a Gig.. Got to love the ability to download a ton of apps, and use the heck out of the Nations Largest 3g carrier...

I believe those are the "mobile broadband" plans, not the one that we are under. Since they use the word "unlimited" right next to the usage counter on their website, I would be really ticked if there was a hidden usage max for normal usage. Of course, I'm sure there is a proviso somewhere in the long form agreement that lets them pull the plug on truly abnormal usage.

Ha, funny thing is that I just happened to check mine, didn't even see this thread.

I did about 150mb yesterday morning and afternoon combined. I stream Pandora all day while I'm at work though. I will finish this cycle tomorrow with about 2gb used. Granted, I did have the Storm before so I had data on the cycle, but this uses way more data.

Part of it might be that I have Pandora turned onto the high quality and not normal quality streaming. I'm sure it is sending a higher bitrate with that high quality stream.

Well if I continue down this track I may be near or over the famous 5gb cap by the end of my billing cycle.. Then the real test will be, do they charge for going over that "Unlimited" cap..

There is no "unlimited" cap for data used on your phone it truly is unlimited. The 5 GB cap only applies if you are "legally" tethering your computer to your phone to use the internets. When it comes out with it early next year and you add it to your plan then you would have a 5 GB limit on tethering.

I am wondering about this unlimited stuff as well.

There is nothing on the bar but I assure you I am using the phone, and was even streaming video using Qik and movies to my mobile using GMote!
I am not going to complain! LOL

Wish people didn't portray the wrong information all the time. You get a bunch of new smartphone users and this is a common thread topic about the 5gb limit.

This is 100% accurate. 5gb is a tethered limit!!!

the problem is that unlimited has a stipulation that you can't use 'excessive' data. First they never defined excessive. Then for a short period (~6 months) the "unlimited data" for phones actually said that 5gb 'may be' considered excessive.

then they removed that and now they have some verbiage about using the device 'like a server' as the trigger for excessive use. (last I bothered to read the TOS)

unfortunately everyone is stuck in like 2007 (or there abouts) for the time period were they listed 5gb as excessive and never bothers to read the current TOS that says dont use the device as a server. And much of that got churned up from pissing matches of 'my carrier is better than your carrier'
