I just got the phone today. I like the big screen, light weight, the apps like kindle an mobytv. But some things bother me like its lagging here and there,I will have to get used to using swype which isnt that bad.

I am just afraid ill break it, its so light and skinny. I had g1 and cliq before and wasnt that afraid to drop them.Menu is a bit different then g1 and cliq. Overrall I think its alright and I might keep it but I need to get a better case like an ottercase. Wierd thing happend anytime I got a call or sms It was reading it aloud and I went into settings and changed that, that was funny  I am still in doubts though Maybe I will give it a week. And if I cant handle it Ill just send it back.

dzine2fit, I agree with you that the phone feels fragile. I want to get a gel (silicon) case for it, but they are very hard to find right now! They seem to be sold out everywhere, except for some sellers on Ebay who ship from overseas.

My old G1 felt like a tank and I dropped it a number of times without any problems. This $500 (retail) phone? Yeah, I am not planning on dropping it even once...

Thanks guys Ill try that launcher pro tomorrow and I did order a gel case from bay cause as u said I cudnt find anywhere else and tom store is basically robbing for a case that's not even that good quality. Indont mind paying for stuff with good quality. So I just order a cheap one for now and wait for the otter case.

Ok, If your like me and HATE swype you can swap it out... simply go to the google search bar and long press... you will get a pop up asking for input method select android keyboard and your back to good old vanilla android style... the other thing is I would recommend ADW launcher... People in this forum are pushing launcherpro hard but open source free apps are always the best way to go kinda the entire point of android..... so try them both and decide but IMHO ADW is better...

Ouchh I wudnt dream of putting my vibrant through that. I donna if the quality we have is the one they are using in the video here.but it gives me some hope,I'll still be careful with this one till I get the otter pack, lol I'm so clumsy:eek:

I would hope not lol if you ever think about doing that to your phone just send it to me haha jk not really.

It is of the same quality, only differences are the buttons and lack of ffc.

Its definitely good to take care of it though so kudos to you :D

Pardon my threadjack but, I don't like working for free, and I'm sure the developers of the apps we know and love like a paycheck as well.

The open source meme is free as in speech, not free as in beer.

Having said that, I don't have a money tree in my back yard either. I'll use the apps that do what I want them to do, the way i want them to do it. I have no objection to getting them for free (as in beer), nor for paying for them if there is a free and a paid version (see GPS Status for one of the best (IMO) raw GPS apps on the market). I do prefer to try before I buy but I also like to reward people who make quality apps with my hard earned bucks.

Pardon my mini-rant. We now return you to your regularly scheduled discussion.

I personally like that it is a nice light weight device. After watching that scratch/drop test, I was debating on even getting a screen protector. Then again, I have heard from many now that the manufacturers use some sort of a sratch resistant cover ( dont know what exactly) that will fade over time, and eventually will scratch. Having just a week ago signed a 2 yr contract:( to afford this phone, I would hate myself if I had to stare at scratches on this beautiful display for any of that time period.

My one complaint is that it is too slippery with the stock cover, but that can and will be changed with a new hard case.

Being that I write apps myself and would not charge cant exactly agree with you but thats because I believe in open source... now am I knocking a donation version or paypal donation link, NO, certainly not but open source is the ENTIRE point of android and we should reward those who practice open source by using their apps just that simple... I mean how much money is Cyanogen making off of his builds? how bout TheDude for his work? That is my point....

Actually, Google making money from advertising is the whole point of Android.

A free (mostly) operating system for the manufacturers, and open source (mostly) for developers is just another piece of cheese in the trap.

They didn't do this out of the goodness of their heart, every move Google makes is calculated to earn them money.

Tmobile has a nice gel case. Its 100 times better than their old cases.

Your missing the entire point of Android or any other Linux based system... its is software of the people for the people without charge to the people... kinda reminiscent of the United States....

I think you mean "kinda reminiscent of how the United States was supposed to be..." We got off track somewhere down the road. :p

But yes, you're right about Linux and Android. I still believe that we as Android supporters should also support the good developers with our pockets.

Launcher Pro has both a free and paid version. The only difference is the addition of widgets made by the developer.

If we want better developers and applications for Android, we should be more willing to give out a little pocket change to support their work. Just my opinion. Android can still be open source and development, but that doesn't mean Android users should expect a free ride if they want quality support.

I downloaded the launcher pro and like it but do you guys know of any other way to lock screen.I don't like this lock version where I have to flick it away to get back into my screen.and I dont like the pattern screen either.I am liking this swype thing moren more though.

If I understand what you are asking ("unlock" the screen?), No Lock in the market is what you are looking for.
