Root So once I've watched the root tutorial videos...

...how do i go about applying one of these roms I have seen here. I just watched the video guide from user IOWA and it seems easy enough to root the phone with the video instructions he posted. I am a complete beginner at this and are somewhat confused about applying roms once I am rooted. If i want to try different roms or update a existing one do i just drop them onto the sd card and flash the phone again. Thanks in advance.

yep. thats it. they DO caution against flashing the HTC based ROMs (ultimate dream, mighty dream etc) without doing a full wipe before using them or after because of some HTC files that will be used/left behind. other than that (especially witht he custom ROM builder at SDX) you will have no problem reflashing ROMs at your will

Hey EmoTony thanks for the quick reply. Another question if you don't mind (or a few). Do I remove the old rom from the sd card before doing updating to a new one (I assume so, but want to make sure). I dont know if you have seen the video a couple of posts below from IOWA that shows how to root but if you have can you answer this for me. Is he installing a custom rom in that video and if so where about in that video is he doing that? If he did install one can I skip that step he shows and instead install the radioactive rom or titanium rom I have seen at sdx. Essentially, I wanna use his video as a step by step guide for my first root and rom upload using a different rom then the one he shows.

i have NOT seen iowas vid, i used the instructions page over at SDX to root mine 2 weeks ago, and am at work so cannot stream video to watch it now. once a rooted kernal is put on the phone, you can have as many ROMs as you want. i have 3 on mine now as well as a zip for a custom boot logo. its not like changing the .TAR in the updater. THAT you can only have one file in the binary folder. onec you load a custom from recovery, it will use THAT one untill you flash another one from recovery.

ok you can have as many roms on the sdcard as you like i think i have about 12 on mine right now.once you have flashed the custom recovery to the phone all you have to do is go into recovey and flash which ever one you want.it is recomended that you flash back to stock before flashing another rom but i have yet to do that and have had no problems.hope this helps and happy flashing.

I noticed some roms say they include root. Does this mean I do not haveto have my phone rooted before adding the rom as long as I have the custom recovery?

I am so confused on this stuff. I read as much as I could at sdx but a lot of lingo that is used is for people that know what they are doing or have done this before. Before this I have never heard of .tar or .rar. I never had win rar on my computer etc...

I followed that one video on here by IOWA and was able to flash the recovery on my phone. When the phone booted up it showed the sdx start-up screen. After that I was lost on how to get a custom rom on the phone. I did not want the one that was in his video. I wanted that radioactive one i keep hearing about. Then I believe read the radioactive rom needed a different recovery then the one I had installed. So I flashed back to stock.

If anyone is still reading just answer me this please. If my phone is stock and I want the radioactive rom, what are the steps to get there.

Sorry for the long rant/post.

I'm a rooting noob as well, I just did mine last week so I may not be as helpful as some other members.

You would just download the radioactive zip file and place it on your SD card.

I have the SDX Recovery 3.1.1 on my phone (that has to be flashed onto the phone, placing it in the binary folder), so I'm not sure about how to install from another recovery.

I just select "install from sd card" and it installs the ROM and restarts the phone.

Where are the tutorial videos? Is there a step-by-step guide for preparing phone and installing radioactive?

if you already rooted and/or have a recovery on your phone, just dl the zip file for the radioactive rom, put it on your sd card, go into recovery, unzip the file in recovery, and it should be installed. after it's installed, reboot, and then your good to go.

if not, (these are not the vids the op is talking bout, but the ones i used and worked for me) watch these to root and put recovery on your phone:
How-To: Root a Samsung Moment with 2.1 Firmware

(you can actually stop following the vid after about 3:55 into the second vid, after he shows you how to put on the recovery.)

then go here :
Radioactive FroYo ROM v1.8.6 **9.2 MFLOP** **Moment-Acclaim Hybrid**

dl the rom, put it on your sd card, turn off phone, go into recover (hold down the volume down + talk +end keys at the same time), etc ( what i wrote above)

hope that helps
